Devenv exe visual studio ошибка

Problem is with security setting .
After 2-3 hours of Googling i found many solution but none of them work then i tried these solutions .

There is one folder in your machine: "C:ProgramData".
Don't worry if you don't see this folder, unhide all the folders, you will find it there.
I did not had the rights on "C:ProgramDataMicrosoftVisualStudio" .
See if you have full rights on the same.
If your are not able to open this folder, This means that you do not have rights on this.
to give rights follow the steps below :
1) Right click on the folder "VisualStudio."
2) Go to Properties->Security. See if your PC name is there in the user names list,
if not , then add it.
3) Go to Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> Other users or groups. add your PC name,
i.e add yourself as the owner of the folder and give full rights.

Which is found here Application-data-folder-error . I was unable to change security of ProgramData files then i tried this solution .

1. On the root folder, right click, select properties, select security tab.
2. Click Advanced
3. The window that pops up should show the current owner. Click "Change."
The "Select User or Group" pop up box appears.
4. In the text box, type in your current user name (you should be an admin), and hit the
"Check Names" button. Your name will be replaced with the "official" system
name (i.e.,preceded by computer name and back slash).
5. Click OK
6. The box disappears, sending you back to the Advanced Security Settings window.
7. A new tick box appears below owner, with the text "Replace owner on subcontainers and
objects" Select this tick box.
8. I also selected the tick box "Replace all child object permission entries
with inheritable permission entries from this object", but I think I had to run this twice
- once with this box ticked and once without.
9. Make sure that "everyone" appears on the Permission entries window, if not,
click add. The same box that appears in step 4 shows up again.
Type everyone, click "Check Names" and then "OK"
10. Hit apply

which is found here Permission error.

Finally it works cheers :) Hope it will help to some other .

  • Hi syoka85,

    Welcome to the MSDN Forum.

I’ve read your post carefully, from your description, the problem you have is:

    ·
When start Visual Studio or open a project, a window appears says an unhandled exception occurs in devenv.exe. And the exception is caused by .NET Framework.

    ·
If you change to another user account, and use command “Run as administrator” to start the program, the program could run.

If I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my analysis of this issue, it might  cause by the .NET Framework or user profile corruption. You could try below steps:

    1.
    Reinstall .NET Framework

    ·
    Uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 through
Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs, also 3.5 /3.0… (If you have in
Add/Remove programs). Then install them again. You can download the standalone installer from:

    2.
After reinstall .NET Framework, open Visual Studio again, is the error still exists? If so, try to use another user account to open it.

This article describes some common troubleshoot tips:
What can be done if Visual Studio IDE encounters
    unexpected problems?

    • I was working with VS 2017 earlier today, then it closed.  When I tried to reopen I got the error:

«A problem occurred when loading the Microsoft Visual Studio menu.  To fix this problem, run ‘devenv.exe /resetsettings’ from the command prompt.  Note this command resets your environment settings.

I ran the command as the administrator and it does not work, any suggestions?

    • Hi Azryel242,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum!

According to the error message, please check

this similar issue and have a try with the following:

      1. Check the System Environment Variables and see if there have a string which was over 2048 characters or not, if it is exists, making sure this is below 2048 characters, it will solve the problem.
Make sure you restart explorer.exe after changing the path variables and getting them under 2048 characters.
      2. Clean up all folders and files under the folder: %LocalAppData%MicrosoftVisualStudio15.0_xxx and restart the VS 2017 to check it again.
      3. Reboot the computer and open VS 2017
      4. Re-run the VS installer as administrator and More-Repair

Hope my answer would be helpful and looking forwards your reply.

I just downloaded VisualSVN Server. It seems to have conflicted with Visual Studio, as none of my projects will now open. The error it is throwing up says

A problem has occurred when loading the Microsoft visual studio menu. To fix this problem, run ‘devenv.exe/resetsettings from the command prompt.

I rebooted and am getting this error now:

The MRU package did not load correctly.

I tried «devenv.exe /setup» as commented, but it completely broke my VS2015.

Then I tried «devenv.exe /resetuserdata» and it works now.

The fix for me was to run visual studio using ./devenv.exe /setup using a console session running as Administrator. Running ./devenv.exe /resetsettings didn’t fix the issue for me.

I had this issue and I didn’t have Visual SVN installed. Resources online suggested that you should check the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio11.0_ConfigPackages{2DC9DAA9-7F2D-11d2-9BFC-00C04F9901D1} and ensure InprocServer32 is correctly set to the vslog.dll file. If it isn’t then it suggested running ‘./devenv.exe /setup’, however my machine had this correctly set, and running devenv with the setup flag fixed the issue for me.

I was getting this repeatedly in Visual Studio 2015 and it was driving me up the wall. The /resetsettings option worked, but of course deleted all of my customisations, which was very irritating.

The solution turned out to be a path that was too long. See:

    http://andydunkel.net/coding/2015/11/13/visual_studio_problem_occured.html

My path wasn’t 2048 characters but was close, so try removing some unneeded entries from your PATH and it might solve this problem.

I encountered the same issue with VisualSVN 4.0.12 installation in Visual Studio 2013. (Interestingly, my Visual Studio 2012 instance worked just fine, it was only VS 2013 that was affected.) To resolve the issue with VS 2013, I performed the following steps:

    1. I unblocked the VisualSVN-4.0.12.msi file that was in my downloads directory.
    2. I right-clicked and selected «Repair Installation» from the context menu.
    3. I right-clicked my VS 2013 icon and selected «Run as Administrator».
    4. VS 2013 started up normally, with no error messages.

I think the key was making sure the that the .msi file was unblocked before performing the installation.

Open Visual Studio developer Command prompt in Admin mode.

    Run devenv /resetsettings

It will reset you visual studio default settings(theme, layout) etc.
And not any of the project settings.

Running «devenv.exe /resetuserdata» works but you will have to do reconnect to your Azure/Teams which should be straight forward.

      However, the conditions are different

I have installed Visual Studio 2012 on a new Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit)

    • Hi, MP001

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum. I understand the inconvenience that you are unable to use devenv.exe on VS 2012 with new win8.1 Pro.
However, I really appreciate all your efforts towards resolving the issue.

In order to help you fix the issue, we need more detailed information and error logs.

      1. Could you please tell us the way of VS installation ( website web installer or iso image)?if you download VS 2012 with iso, please use FCIV utility to check here is
a link about how to use FCIV:
        https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/841290

      2. After verifying the installation resource is completely ok, Please use collect.exe utility to collect logs

      a. Download collect.exe from the link below.

      b. You may choose to save the tool for later use, or to run directly.

      c. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the VS and .NET logs to %TEMP%vslogs.cab

Here is the collect.exe utility download link:http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkId=8967043

      3. Please use OneDrive to share the file to us,. Here are file share steps:

      a. Upload the vslogs.cab to your OneDrive

      b. Swipe down or right-click the file select it.

      c. Click Share.

      d. To share with specific individuals or groups, choose Invite people. To share with lots of people you might not even know personally, Get a link and share
      the link to public.

It would be better to have error logs to analysis the cause of the issue.

    • Hi Wen,

      Thanks for your reply.

I am using an ISO image. Others in my office have used the same image with no issues at all, so I dont think the problem is with the image, so I skipped the 1st step which u mentioned.

Moving On, I download the COLLECT utility and ran it to collect the logs.

I have uploaded the same on my Onedrive and the same can be downloaded from here

      VSLOGS

I am really looking forward to have Visual studio working on my machine.

      Really appreciate your help

      Thanks.

    • Hi MP001,

Thank you for uploading VSlogs, after I view the log files, I found that there is no information about VS 2012 but VS 2015 premium, it seems that you have installed VS 2015 premium.

Could you please tell us which devenv.exe that you tried to run? VS 2012 edition or the VS 2015 premium devenv?

I would suggest you to use the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool fix some frequently occurring issues. Here is a repair tool download link below:

Do you have some more suggestions.

      Thanks

    • Hi,MP001

In this case, I would suggest you to repair VS 2012:

      1. Choose: control panel — Programs — uninstall a program, right click :visual studio 2012, click: repair
      2. Then please use collect utility to gather error log information and reupload VSlogs to us, we will use it to analysis the cause of the issue.

    • I have done the REPAIR, but the problem is still the same.

I am attaching the VsLogs here

      best Regards

    • Hi MP001

I really appreciate that you attached the VSLOGS, After checking the log files you has provided, the

cause of the issue is that iso image is corrupted.

In this case, I suggest that you use a completely ok iso image to install VS 2012 premium ,then use the FCIV utility to verify if the iso file is ok, then install locally

Here is the VS 2012 premium download link:

      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30654

      Best Regards

      Wen Xu

    • Hi Wen,

Thanks a lot for reviewing the LOGS.

I uninstalled the 2012 Premium from my machine, cleared the logs, restarted the machine and then installed 2012 Pro (also from an ISO). Everything went well (no errors). However on launching the DEVENV, i get the same error as before.

I have taken the Logs again and have uploaded the same
      here.

I would be grateful, if you can check these out as well. It is highly unlikely that I install from 2 different ISO and there are no errors during the installation, but I cannot start the IDE.

      regards

    • Hi Wen,

I have tried all the suggestions.

Tried installing from the LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT

Disconnected from the domain totally and then tried

      Tried the DISM utility

The article on Root certificate states that this has already been taken care of in Windows 8.1 and does not apply the package.

      NO LUCK ANYWHERE.

Is there something else that I can do?

    • Is there anyone who can help me out here?

    • I have tried everything but with no luck.

Finally I installed VS 2015 Pro, and it went like a breeze. NO PROBLEMS

So the issue is with the VS 2012 installer and not my machine.

    • I could find a similar question at DEVENV

      However, the conditions are different

I have installed Visual Studio 2012 on a new Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit)

machine. I get the above stated error. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, but still the issue remains.

I ran the dependency walker on DEVENV.EXE and this is what I found.

I have no clue as to how I can tackle the situation.

      Someone please help me.

    • Hi Wen,

I definitely am installing VS 2012 Premium (with Blend) The office does not even have VS 2015 yet. So maybe the logs are goofing up somewhere.

I have also downloaded the >Net Framework Repair tool and run it, but the problem still persists.

I am attaching the VsLogs here

      best Regards

    • Hi MP001

I really appreciate that you attached the VSLOGS, After checking the log files you has provided, the

cause of the issue is that iso image is corrupted.

In this case, I suggest that you use a completely ok iso image to install VS 2012 premium ,then use the FCIV utility to verify if the iso file is ok, then install locally

Here is the VS 2012 premium download link:

      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30654

      Best Regards

It is highly unlikely that I install from 2 different ISO and there are no errors during the installation, but I cannot start the IDE.

      regards

Troubleshoot network-related errors when you install, update, or use Visual Studio

    [!INCLUDE Visual Studio]

We’ve got solutions for the most typical network- or proxy-related errors. You might encounter these errors when you install, update, or use Visual Studio behind a firewall, a proxy server, or on a client machine that doesn’t have access to the internet.

    Error: “Proxy authorization required”

This error generally occurs when users connect to the internet through a proxy server. The proxy server then blocks the calls that Visual Studio makes to some network resources.

    To fix this proxy error

    • Restart Visual Studio. A proxy authentication dialog should appear. Enter your credentials when prompted in the dialog.

    • If restarting Visual Studio doesn’t solve the problem, it might be because your proxy server doesn’t prompt for credentials for http://go.microsoft.com addresses, but it does so for *.visualStudio.microsoft.com addresses. For these servers, add the following URLs to an allowlist to unblock all sign-in scenarios in Visual Studio:

      • *.windows.net

      • *.microsoftonline.com

      • *.visualstudio.microsoft.com

      • *.microsoft.com

      • *.live.com

    • We recommend that you remove the http://go.microsoft.com address from the allowlist. Removing the address allows the proxy authentication dialog to show up for both the http://go.microsoft.com address and the server endpoints when Visual Studio restarts.

      -OR-

    • If you want to use your default credentials with your proxy, you can perform the following actions:

    ::: moniker range=»vs-2019″

    1. Find devenv.exe.config (the devenv.exe configuration file) in: %ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual Studio2019EnterpriseCommon7IDE or %ProgramFiles(x86)%Microsoft Visual Studio2019EnterpriseCommon7IDE.

    2. In the configuration file, find the <system.net> block, and then add this code:

      <defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="true">
          <proxy bypassonlocal="True" proxyaddress="http://<yourproxy:port#>"/>
      </defaultProxy>

You must insert the correct proxy address for your network in proxyaddress="<http://<yourproxy:port#>.

      [!NOTE]
For more information, see the <defaultProxy> Element (Network Settings) and <proxy> Element (Network Settings) pages.

    ::: moniker-end

    ::: moniker range=»vs-2022″

    1. Find devenv.exe.config (the devenv.exe configuration file) in: %ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual Studio2022EnterpriseCommon7IDE or %ProgramFiles(x86)%Microsoft Visual Studio2022EnterpriseCommon7IDE.

    2. In the configuration file, find the <system.net> block, and then add this code:

      <defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="true">
          <proxy bypassonlocal="True" proxyaddress="http://<yourproxy:port#>"/>
      </defaultProxy>

You must insert the correct proxy address for your network in proxyaddress="<http://<yourproxy:port#>.

      [!NOTE]
For more information, see the <defaultProxy> Element (Network Settings) and <proxy> Element (Network Settings) pages.

    ::: moniker-end

Error: “Disconnected from Visual Studio” when attempting to report a problem

This error generally occurs when a user connects to the internet through a proxy server. The proxy server then blocks the calls that Visual Studio makes to some network resources.

    To fix this proxy error

    1. Find feedback.exe.config (the feedback.exe configuration file) in: %ProgramFiles(x86)%Microsoft Visual StudioInstaller or %ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual StudioInstaller.

    2. In the configuration file, check whether the following code is present; if the code isn’t present, add it before the last </configuration> line.

      <system.net>
          <defaultProxy useDefaultCredentials="true" />
      </system.net>

Error: “The underlying connection was closed”

If you’re using Visual Studio in a private network that has a firewall, Visual Studio might not be able to connect to some network resources. These resources can include Azure DevOps Services for sign-in and licensing, NuGet, and Azure services. If Visual Studio fails to connect to one of these resources, you might see the following error message:

The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on send

Visual Studio uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 protocol to connect to network resources. Security appliances on some private networks block certain server connections when Visual Studio uses TLS 1.2.

    To fix this connection error

Enable connections for the following URLs:

    • *.azurewebsites.net (for Azure connections)

    • *.visualstudio.microsoft.com

    • cdn.vsassets.io (hosts content delivery network, or CDN, content)

    • *.gallerycdn.vsassets.io (hosts Azure DevOps Services extensions)

    • static2.sharepointonline.com (hosts resources that Visual Studio uses in the Office UI Fabric kit, such as fonts)

    • *.nuget.org (for NuGet connections)

      [!NOTE]
Privately owned NuGet server URLs may not be included in this list. You can check for the NuGet servers that you are using in %APPData%NugetNuGet.Config.

Error: «Failed to parse ID from parent process»

You might encounter this error message when you use a Visual Studio bootstrapper and a response.json file on a network drive. The error’s source is the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows.

Here’s why this error can happen: A mapped network drive or UNC share is linked to a user’s access token. When UAC is enabled, two user access tokens are created: One with administrator access, and one without administrator access. When a network drive or share is created, the user’s current access token is linked to it. Because the bootstrapper must be run as administrator, it won’t be able to access the network drive or share if either the drive or the share isn’t linked to a user-access token that has administrator access.

    To fix this error

You can use the net use command or you can change the UAC Group Policy setting. For more information about these workarounds and how to implement them, see the following Microsoft support articles:

    • Mapped drives aren’t available from an elevated prompt when UAC is configured to «Prompt for credentials» in Windows
    • Programs may be unable to access some network locations after you turn on User Account Control in Windows operating systems

Error: The product fails to install or update because network share permissions aren’t configured correctly

You need to make sure that the account performing the install or update has sufficient access to the network shares.

    Issue Solution
User account can’t access files If the user has administrator permissions on the machine and is going to be installing or updating from a layout, then you’ll need to make sure that the network share permissions (ACLs) are configured to grant users read access before the network location is shared.
System account can’t access files Sometimes the installation or update is run using the system account instead of a user account. This typically happens when Administrator updates are used to keep the machine updated and secure. You’ll need to make sure that the client machines’ system accounts have read permissions to the network file share. You can do this by creating an Active Directory group containing the machine accounts that need access to the share, and then granting that AD group access to the share.

devenv.exe will work, but will not direct output to the console. Use devenv.com if you want to see the output.

Commands that begin with devenv are handled by the devenv.com utility, which delivers output through standard system streams, such as stdout and stderr. The utility determines the appropriate I/O redirection when it captures output, for example to a .txt file.

Alternatively, commands that begin with devenv.exe can use the same switches, but the devenv.com utility is bypassed. Using devenv.exe directly prevents output from appearing on the console.

Yes this is exit immediately, but it is doing its operation on our backend, actually, it is building the package. you can verify this from your File Explorer. If you want to know what is exactly happening while applying devenv.exe *.sln /Build then you have to use devenv.com *.sln /Build. this command will give you a detailed log while it’s running.
