  • Question

  • After upgrading from Office 2013 to 2016, Outlook crashes frequently for one of our users.  In EV, the error is always due to the faulting module EMSMDB32.DLL.

What I’ve tried, but the crash still happens…

    -Run Outlook in Safe Mode

    -Create new profile

    -Run ScanPST

    -Run a repair of Office

    -Re-installed Office

-Change EMSMDB32.DLL to .old to force a new copy to be created

-Install and run OffCAT (tried all recommended fixes)

-If he uses a different computer or virtual desktop (creating a new local ost) Outlook will still crash

-Removed everything from Inbox, calendars, contacts (we do not use roaming profiles)

-There is no crash when using OWA.

We use Exchange 2013.  No one else is having this issue.

  • Hi,

When testing using a different computer, did you log on the computer using the user’s account or did you just set up the user’s mailbox in the Outlook on the different computer? Please try both scenarios to see the result.

As the views are stored in mailbox, it’s possible that the issue was caused due to corrupted mailbox views. We may try to start Outlook with
/cleanviews switch and then check if this issue continues. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook /cleanviews and press Enter.

In addition, from the server side, we may also try to move the users mailbox to another database to see if this issue continues.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Steve Fan

Reasons Behind Outlook Crash Error

The emsndb32.dll file is handled by MPAI(Message Application Programming Interface) that’s why they are updated by Microsoft on a regular basis.

C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice12EMSMDB32.DLL.
