This is a Startup entry, not a running process — although it may be visible in Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) if it continues running after startup. Before ending a process via CTRL+ALT+DEL just because it is listed as an «X», please check whether it’s actually set to start using MSCONFIG or another tool.
Some bad startup entries use the same names as common Windows processes, and it may be difficult to distinguish between them in Task Manager. If in doubt, seek advice before doing anything.
Dear Irina,
Thank you for posting your question on our forum.
To address this issue, please follow these steps:
Check USB connections:
Ensure that the USB cable connecting the ASMT USB 3.0 Desktop H SCSI Disk Device to your computer is securely plugged in. Try using a different USB port on your computer to rule out any port-related issues.
Update USB 3.0 controller driver:
Visit the website of your computer manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer and download the latest USB drivers for your specific model. Install the drivers and restart your computer.
Update disk device drivers:
Go to the website of the external USB case/adapter manufacturer (ASMT USB 3.0 Desktop H SCSI Disk Device) and check if there are any updated drivers available for your disk model. Download and install the latest drivers, then restart your computer. Also, visit the website of the disk manufacturer for any driver updates.
Alternatively, you can use Auslogics Driver Updater to automatically scan and update your drivers. Download Auslogics Driver Updater from https://www.auslogics.com/en/software/driver-updater/.
Disable the USB selective suspend setting:
When enabled, this setting allows the operating system to suspend power to USB devices to conserve energy, but it can sometimes cause connectivity issues. To disable the USB selective suspend setting, please follow these steps:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Power Options.
- In the Power Options window, click on the «Additional power settings» link.
- Then click on the «Change plan settings» link next to your selected power plan.
- On the «Edit Plan Settings» page, click on the «Change advanced power settings» link.
- In the «Power Options» dialog box, scroll down and expand the «USB settings».
- Expand the «USB selective suspend» setting.
- Change the setting for both the «On battery» and «Plugged in» options to «Disabled».
- Click «Apply» and then «OK» to save the changes.
- After disabling the USB selective suspend setting, restart your computer and check if the issue persists.
Please keep in mind that if you’re using a laptop, disabling this setting may slightly reduce battery life. However, it can help troubleshoot USB connectivity problems.
Run hardware troubleshooter:
In Windows, you can use the built-in hardware troubleshooter to automatically detect and resolve any hardware-related issues. To access it, press the Windows key + R to open the Run Dialog Window, then paste «msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic» (without quotes) and hit Enter. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Check disk health:
It’s recommended to check the health of your disk using disk diagnostic tools. To ensure the health of your disk, we recommend using the Disk Doctor feature in Auslogics BoostSpeed. Here’s how:
- Launch Auslogics BoostSpeed.
- Go to All Tools and select Disk Doctor.
- Run a deep scan and repair using the ‘Deep Scan & Fix Selected’ option for the best results.
Set the new partition:
By creating a new partition on your USB 3.0 external drive, you enable Windows 10 to detect and use it as a recognized hard drive. Learn more in our article: https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/
Check for hardware problems:
The external USB case/adapter is what you are seeing as ASMT USB 3.0 Desktop H SCSI Disk Device. So, if the issue persists after following these steps, it’s possible that there may be a hardware problem with this device. Try using a different case/adapter for your disk.
If that doesn’t help, you can try connecting the disk directly to your computer, without the adapter, if technically feasible, to use it as an internal drive.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it’s advisable to contact the manufacturer for tech support or consider seeking assistance from a professional technician who can further diagnose and repair the disk.
