So I decided i wanted to get back into Vita hacking but then I remembered that my 8GB memory card is corrupted or something. This happened months ago so some details may not be completely accurate or whatever. I’ve read online that this error basically means the card is corrupted / dead.

Basically what happened was I connected to my PC w/ Vitashell via USB. A message appeared on my PC saying «There’s a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it». So blindly, what I did was clicked on it. Windows finished the process and then the ps vita wasn’t able to use the card properly anymore. When trying to format the card, I get error C4-10278-8.
I also tried to format it in safe mode but I get this: «Cannot find the update file.» and then it gives me error C4-10278-8 once again.

Oddly, if I boot into the system without the memory card inserted, then insert it (without reboot) and go into Vitashell, then connect to PC via USB, the PC picks up the memory card and displays it’s files rather than the internal memory card’s files. Though I can’t write to the card at all.

I presume my card is bust but if anyone has any ideas at all please reply, it would be great to get this card working.
This could also be considered a PSA to not let Windows fix problems with the drive if the message appears :P

So you are trying to get a corrupted card to work?. If you can’t format it I don’t see how it’s going to be in any use at all. Oh nvrm old thread if anything the OP probably got that card replaced by now

I’m in the same boat my maidump games stopped working and can’t install NoNpdrm’s properly all b/c I tried to repatch an undub game….

  • #6

it’s probably dead. the official memory cards are pos.

  • #7

Welp I fixed my maidump issue by using the maidump tool.. go figure. Anyway not sure if your problem is related but if you get an annoying error when trying to launch a maidump game
use its tool and select
«Switch game loading» Choose your game, then select «#6. Mode 5 Loading» Tho I’m still trying to get NoNpDRM to work again. Making sure I backup my app.dat on PC this time

I presume by your post that nonpdrm games aren’t appearing? do you have nonpdrm.skprx listed in your config.txt? have you refreshed the livearea with vita shell? I know the games won’t appear unless nonpdrm is correctly linked to.

nonpdrm was working fine earlier today, but when I was tampering with the config file to get another plugin called repatch to work, which I couldn’t it keeps saying I need to format the memory card upon rebooting. Ofcourse I denied it and rebuild my database
But the problem persists editing the config file prompts me to format my memory card on every reboot. So at this point I don’t have a choice but to start from scratch. Losing my games isn’t an issue since I have downloads of them on PC and of course pkgj

you should do what I do — backup the games to a computer, reformat, then restore those games. that way you won’t have to redownload everything. I’ve never encountered the issue you mentioned. you may have to reinstall molecular shell. that will remove the old config.txt in favor of its own. I Learned that yesterday when I was ridding myself of a banned account. however, I’m not sure if that was actually from a system restore. I’m thinking that was from installing molecular shell thoug…based on memory. you might try that via normal henkaku if you’re using ensou. I had to redo practically everything after a system restore. however, my psp theme somehow survived it. lol btw, the tai folder survived the system restore which I do remember. ;)

Yeah Im copying the entire ux0 at this point at least my app.db will come in handy for this turn around

  • #12

you just reminded me to back that up. I just did that. now, I’m backing up the appmeta folder. I noticed that the app.db is about 100KBs smaller on 3.65. I also noticed that nier is gone from the system, perhaps due to its exploit?

Lmao my problem was very simple to fix thanks to this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/VitaPiracy/comments/8sivth/a_way_to_solve_the_pkgj_download/
So basically all I had to do was copy all of the contents in the tai folder within my ux0 to the ur0 folder and then delete the ux0 tai folder which was giving me errors in pkgj installing a game

Also the plugin responsible for giving me memory card format nags was the gamesd.skprx, which I have no clue what its for anyway so getting rid of that solved my reboot issue. But yeah I managed to regain everything I backed up it was fairly simple
After I format the card I just simply copied both ur0/ux0 folders back and rebooted the vita automatically rebuilding the database all games and apps returned. I do want to point out if you ever format you’ll need QCMA to give you an entry point to install vitashell ofcourse.

I know this is old, but I just had to deal with this issue myself and I have a solution. Either put it in a Vita with a different PSN account or put a different PSN account on your Vita. This force wipes the card no matter what and it goes back to working like normal.

My guess is to how it happened to me is during a power outage I was in Plants vs Zombies. Did not think about the battery during the outage. So it died with game open and I think it is most likely that it considered the game open and it got stuck. So when I tried to open a different file, it took as two files trying to work at once. My best guess on the other end then is that the reformatting issue is coming from something being in «use» and so it just will not let you do it.

With a different PSN account, that no longer applies because the top priority is to stop some sort of possible theft and therefore wants the data wiped period. So it worked just fine.

This also explains why larger cards have this issue more than smaller cards. A smaller card could be storing less of the files that would create such a hiccup. Though I had my card for 5 years before this happened.

Is this for the C4-10278-8 error?

C4-10278-8, could not format memory card

So I bought a used PS Vita from a fella online a few days ago and it finally arrived today. It’s a 1001 model and he included the system, charger, and an 8GB memory card. I booted it up when I got it and I was very happy to see everything with the system worked excellent, but when I turned it on I got a pop-up telling me I needed to format the card. I clicked yes through it but when I clicked to continue, I was given an error telling me that the card couldn’t be formatted. I’ve tried a couple times, reformatted the whole system, removed and reinserted the card, etc. Is there any fix for this or is the card completely broken? I spent all my money on the system and games and even then it would take days for a replacement card to arrive. Any help is appreciated!

So for some reason one day my Vita stopped letting me load my games off my memory card. So I decided to format it. After formatting, which worked fine, I tried to download something onto the memory card. I got an error. So I read to try and format the memory card again, so I did. This time, however, I got an error while formating, error C4-10278-8. Then the Vita says I need to format the memory card to use it, but again, I get an error when formating. I’ve searched for hours for a solution, and none seem to have worked. I really don’t want to have to buy a new memory card, because I can’t spare the money to do so.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When you google «PSVita Error C4-10278-8» there should be some results. Contact Sony via Live Chat as suggested in this thread.

Did you try Safe Mode as suggested in this thread?

Other ideas:
— Rebuild Database.
— Unlock the card.
— Reinserting the card.

I rebuilt the database, and obviously tried reinserting the card. I’m not quite sure what you mean by unlock the card, though.
I’ve tried everything in Safe Mode I possibly can, and I’ve also spent hours on Google and other forums looking for a solution.
And I have contacted Sony through Live Chat, they were no help at all.

I have no idea, either. I just read it on GameForAllQueens.

Yikes on all fronts!

I am sorry, but I guess I have no answers for you. :( However, you could try a new memory card.

Gah, I was dreading this… See where I am, it takes around 20 hours to get to a store where they sell memory cards… I mean, I love my Vita, I use it all the time, but it’s stupid this happened and Sony won’t help me. Oh well, maybe in a few months I can afford a new memory card.
Thanks for helping out anyways, @Carlos.

It seems like buying a new one is sadly the only solution. I even tried running the memory card through some programs I have and rebuilding it manually, no luck.

I tried the card in my nephews vita today and same problem, error message..tried his card in mine and it brought me to the screen saying this card is linked to ……… so I presume it’s reading it..to be fair I have it a year and a new 8gb is 20 euro so I’ll take the chance and hopefully it’s the card and not the system..I’ll report back when I purchase a new one which will be in the next day or two

So I got a new 8gb card today and it works fine now..so 100 % the card was the problem
