Ошибка cinnamon session failed

Hello

Everything was working well for me with cinnamon Tara until this morning.

At first, after launching my laptop this morning, sound wasn’t working at all. Neither on laptop speakers, nor on headphones.
I tried to remove and reinstall alsa-base and pulseaudio.
Then alsa force-reload in the terminal,,, Still no sound.

Then I tried to use a timeshift snapshot from yesterday.
It looked to have been done normally

Then I tried to reboot my laptop.
The launch process stopped on a black screen with a tiny window displaying:

"unable to launch "cinnamon-session-cinnamon" X session---
"cinnamon-session-cinnamon"  not found; falling back to default session.

After I checked «OK» there was only black screen with nothing more.

I tried in recovery mode, to have exactly the same thing.

I don’t know what to do but re-install linux, which is what I would like to avoid.

I’ve tried what you advise.
apt-get update returns many error messages
cannot resolve archiv.canonical.com
cannot resolve ppa.launchpad.net
cannot resolve packages.linuxmint.com
cannot resolve archive.ubuntu.com
and cannot resolve security.ubuntu.com

Roughly the same for apt-get install

So I didn’t succeed.

One way to overcome that problem is to read the error messages, and if they don’t make any sense then post all of them here, not just a summary. Enclose the output between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.

At first glance it looks like you’re having internet issues.

I apologize to be so incompetent.
Reading thoroughly error messages don’t make any sense (for me). it just tell something like «websites cannot be connected to».
And I don’t know how to copy the screen when I am in recovery mod under root, to put them on my answer.

I had suspiscion about internet problems through wifi. So I tried again with a wire link which doesn’t need password; but I had the very same result.
I tested under» live cd» that internet worked fine.

To copy from the terminal: select the text (one way is to drag your mouse), then copy by using the rightclick option, or by pressing shift + ctrl + c.
To paste into a terminal: shift + ctrl + v (or the rightclick option again).

After re-reading that, at @Moem’s prompting, I see your problem with the terminal. I’m sorry about that mistake. Anyway, I think something is seriously broken. You might want to boot from a live USB or DVD and post the output of inxi -FxzD. I need to know what disk and partition your Mint is installed on and if you can connect to the network from the live media or not.

I confirm that when running recover -> root mode, I don’t know how to copy anything else than the prompt line. I’ve no mouse and even I know no mean to select anything outside the prompt line.

Just now, I’m running the only thing working here: live usb mode.
So, the following output is generated from live usb mode and the command «]inxi -Fxz» because » inxi -FxzD» doesn’t work.

Hi i just ran into this issue out of the blue and can not fix it, I keep getting this message when trying to reinstall cinnamon

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
Cinnamon:depends: linlbcanberra-pulse but it is not going to be installed
E: unable to correct problems , you have held broken packages

I found the solution, reinstalling cinnamon on the Linux partition, running LinuxMint live usb .

It worked fine for me, solving both problems of: cinnamon X session and sound.

Man….you just saved my life….I had exactly the same problem and was starting to wonder if I had to reinstall the all bloody thing….kudos for sharing the details it worked like a charm for me.
