Ошибка error while writing received failure with description failure

I faced this issue many times. While uploading or editing any file from FileZilla it its showing error message

Error: error while writing: received failure with description ‘Failure’.

After the upload file the file size will be 0 byte.

My server is AWS EC2 with Minimum instance class type.

The «Failure» is an error message for error code 4, returned by the OpenSSH SFTP server for various problems, for which there’s no more specific code in the SFTP protocol version 3. While the server should at least return a specific plain-text error message, it fails to do so.

Common reasons you may get the generic «Failure» error message, while uploading are:

  • Uploading a file to a full filesystem (HDD).
  • Exceeding a user disk quota.

These reasons will even agree with the empty file when the error occurs.

I created a file (without an extension) instead of a folder by mistake. When I tried to create a folder with the same name, I had the same error as yours.

To fix issue, I removed the file and created the folder again.

I am attempting to upload a file to an SFTP, however every time I upload a file the download starts, reaches 100%, then returns an error and restarts. This process continues 3 times, the file reaching 100% then returning an error, and then will finally result in an empty file being created. I have gone through many posts discussing the same issue and every response says it is due to the user going over their Disk Quota on the server, however I know that this is not the case having checked the space I’m using and the space that I am allotted.

Here is the error in my logs:

Error: error while writing: received failure with description ‘Failure’
Error: File transfer failed

Even though your user account has enough quota, the server itself might have run out of disk space. Unfortunately the server does not provide a more helpful error message other than a generic ‘Failure’. Please contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for further assistance.

Your server has been started in ‘Rescue’ mode. This has either been requested by you in the OVH manager or a technician has had to do this because of an error that needs to be resolved in Rescue mode.

This mode means that a basic Linux/BSD system has been launched on your server through the network. This is not the system installed on your server and none of your disks have been mounted.

A web interface is available for you to carry out diagnosis on your server (hard disk, raid, ram, CPU) and to browse your file systems using the following details:
— 176.31.117.155:444
— user: root
— password: oVF37En5FlSj

You may connect to your server through SSH with the following details:

You can now carry out the maintenance required to the repair your server.

For example, you can:

Ты понимаешь о чем я говорю вообще?
Тебе сбросили сервер в режим восстановления.
Чтобы заказчик сервера, т.е. ты исправил косяк ОС.
Как я понимаю ты что-то настроил в ОС и она перестала работать. Сработал мониторинг дата-центра, что сервер не доступен. И создался авто-тикет сотруднику ДЦ и он посмотрел, диагностировал и сбросил. Потому что администрированием этот ДЦ не занимается, если бы занимался цены были бы в 3 раза дороже. И клиенты сами должны чинить свои косяки. И есть такой режим восстановления через который можно починить. Но ты не умеешь.

KVM ты тоже пользоваться не умеешь? Как вариант можно купить на 24 часа KVM к этому серверу за 25 евро.
Но если ты не умеешь — тебе это не поможет.

сейчас я попробую ребутнуть в обычный режим
но вряд-ли это тоже поможет
скорее всего опять сработает мониторинг и техник через час потом так же сбросит в режим восстановления

если ты не умеешь администрировать
ищи админа который тебе за деньги это сделает

а если нужно переустановить ОС с нуля
смело пиши — это не проблема

Итого, как мы видим — человек не понимал что купил. Писал про какой-то апач. Портил настройки сервера.
Не умел восстанавливать через режим восстановления.
Ну и поэтому тупо проебал свои файлы.
И пришлось с нуля ему переустанавливать ОС.
Вот что значит — покупать сервер без поддержки. И дата-центр OVH именно так и работает. Там все автоматически. Все косяки клиенты должны исправлять сами. Ну а я как посредник в закупках — тоже не занимаюсь поддержкой и копаться в чужих серверах нету желания.
Если вы не умеете — покупайте там где есть поддержка. Но и стоить услуга будет в разы дороже. Или же меньшие по мощности ресурсы с каких-ниб шаредов или VDS нод.

«failed to writed file to disk» problem

Hi,

I have used VestaCP for 6 month now. I also have several website running with wordpress.
However, this couple of days, everytime I tried to upload image of file I get «failed to writed file to disk»,
I have checked the file permission via ftp, all file permission was okay, nothing change.
I also checked where my VestaCP hosted, and they said I have unlimited storage.

max_file_upload has been set to 200mb and the file that I tried to upload is really small, it’s less then 30kb.
The same happened when I tried upload the file through ftp, I get an error message «error while writing: received failure with description ‘failure’»

What is causing that problem, because it’s working fine for last 6 month.

There is no such thing as «unlimited storage». Be aware of hosts that sell using that.

It sounds like your out of disk space or you’ve reached your quota. This is a question for your host, not this forum.

Previously, I did check with the host, and they said the storage is unlimited. I also saw on the vesta control panel, there are no notification about storage reach the limit.

May be do a
chown -R <vestauser>:<vestauser> /home/<vestauser>/web/<sitedomain>/public_html
through SSH and the try ?
Looks more like a permission problem

There is no freespace on the /home filesystem.
It is emergency. You need or to remove some unused files, or to extend the storage.

As per df-h result posted, that’s not the case I think. It clearly show 50G-17G=31GB Free space.
However, his tmpfs (3.9G 0% left) seems to be full which might be the case.

A reboot should help you get rid of it, but you might want to investigate what is filling it in

The /home filesystem is a place where all sites are stored with their temporary files. So 13MB free space on /home is really the big issue!!!
tmpfs is interesting question too.

    Пытаюсь передать сборку на сервер через файлзиллу, а вижу вот это:

    Возможно, я пересоздал новую виртуалку с местом побольше и всë запустилось. Но вроде место хватало.
