SU0013 on Win98 Install

I have a machine with win95 and a partitioned hard drive (2 partitions each about 50%). I wanted to intall win95 on it. I formatted the drive and installed 98 — no problem. But I discovered that only half of the hard drive was recognized (the first partition, I assume — there were two). Since the whole drive is only 3.6 GB I wanted to be able to access the whole thing — not just one half.

It was suggested that I use FDISK to remove the second partition. I did but the re-install still did not see the whole drive. It was then suggested that I use a program called PARTITION RESIZER to re-partition the whole drive. That was done.

However, now I cannot install win98 at all. Either the install hangs in the «Preparing to run Win 98 Setup» or I get the «su0013» error. Searching the net I see that the use of a third-party partitioning software (such as EZ Driver or Disk Manager) causes this problem. Could Partition Resizer also cause this problem>

The suggested work-around I keep seeing says to install from the win98 directory on my win98 CD rather than my win98 boot disk. This does not work either.

Additionally, I can still see the two partitions through DOS. The C partition has COMMAND.COM and what looks like the beginning of WIN98 files on it; the D partition is labeled MS-RAMDRIVE and has COMMAND.COM, EDIT.COM, FORMAT.COM, etc on it.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this install?

Your post is a little unclear — but here goes:

It look like you are using and OEM copy of Windows98 to install from. If an OEM copy of 98 detects a previous version of Windows on the target machine (NOT just the hard disk or partition in quetsion) it will not allow you to install the software.

First — make sure your BIOS is recognising the Hard Disk Drive properly (How old is the PC??) — Might be worth flashing if you can find an upgrade.

Also, some partition utilities and disk manager write themselves into the boot sector of the hard disk drive. You need to remove any partition software or disk manager tools you have installed or used.

Next, remove all partitions from the drive using FDISK.

Restart the machine and boot from your setup disk or the Windows98 CD using F8 to bypass its startup -> go to the command prompt.

Run FDISK again and say YES to large drive support (in effect FAT32 filetable). Exit FDISK and reboot as above. Format the C: drive normally without making it a system disk.

Reboot and start 98 setup from the CD. This ought to work.

As Nelson say it is unclear at what state your drive is at ?

Two empty partitions C: and D: ?

Are they formatted ?

Anything installed on either ?

If you want to start from scratch.

1. FDISK and delete all logical drives, all extended partitions, all primary partitions.

2. Reboot with Win98 boot disk. FDISK answerig Y to large disk supportand allocate 50% as primary partition C: making it active.

3. Use remaining space for Extended partition and allocate all space to logical drive D:

5. Format D:

6. Run setup from the WIN98 cd.

7. Install Vid Card drivers and reboot.

8. Install Sound Card drivers and reboot.

9. Install any other drivers as appropriate, eg modem etc.

Finally you mentioned that you want to install Win95 but then spoke about Win98 ????

I would strongly suggest that you copy your win98 CD to your HD and run the install from there. It is much faster and when it is trying to find and load all your drivers you don’t need to be swappping out CD’s w/ the 98 one. Also very handy down the road as well since you don’t need to have it on hand all the time.

i followed your advice and got win98 installed (sorry about the typo — i was installing 98 not 95 though the machine did previously have 95 on it before i formatted the drive).

it must have been the full shut-downs between the steps that did it. i was beginning to think that i would have to buy a new drive. thanks for the savings.

also, thanks to you others that replied before i could post this message.

Здравствуйте, прошу Вас ПО-МО-ГИ-ТЕЕЕ!!!! Я не могу установить Win98 и Me!!!!!!! То есть, я конечно могу, и делал это не раз, но тут я ничего не пойму, что происходит?!!! Дело в следующем: принесли мне вчера домой очередной компьютер для настройки — Винды поставить, программы, отладить и т.д. (я этим занимаюсь не профессионально, а так — для знакомых ). На нем стояла Me. Ну, значит, удалил я ее (не люблю!), поставил 98-е, переделил диск с помощью Партишин Мэджиков, протестировал систему и в Виндах и в ДОС, после этого удалил и 98-е Винды. Поставил XP Pro (так мне заказывали, да и на моем компе она стоит — проблемы есть, но нравится она мне!). Но тут оказалось, что драйверов для XP на встроенную звуковуху (CMedia 8738) производитель мамы не приложил, пришлось лезть в Инет, искать… Нашел, поставил звук, все нормально. А тут еще у хозяина компа в компе плата такая стоит, Пиннакл называется ДС10+ (то есть для видеомонтажа), так на нее я и в Инете драйверов не нашел. Так ее и не удалось завести… И принял я решение — сносить ХэПэ, так как хозяин очень хочет видео заниматься, а ждать Пиннакл не хочет. Вот тут все и началось… Снес я значит ХэПэ, то есть подчистую (format c:), так после этого никакие другие Винды не хотят ставится (ни Me, ни 98). Установка начинается, проходит проверка дисков, все нормально, потом как обычно появляется синий экран загрузки, Винды говорят, что они готовятся к установке, индикатор ползет, доходит до 100% и… ВСЕ!!! Пишет: «Application Error SUWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module <unknown>037FOCCASUWIN will close» и предлагает закрыть это окно. Я его закрываю, черный экран, пишет: «Standard Mode: Bad Fault in MS-DOS Extender Fault: такое-то… Stack Dump: такой-то… Raw fault frame: такой-то… Нажмите любую клавишу…» Я все что мог пытался сделать, лазил в BIOS, менял там различные настройки, тестировал память testmemом, еще раз ставил WinXp (установилась без проблем), потом опять ее снес, но что я ни пытался сделать, ни Win98, ни WinMe установить мне не удается!!! Все та же ошибка, то же сообщение. Не знаю, сможете ли Вы мне помочь с этим разобраться, если сможете, век Вам буду благодарен. Помогите, пожалуйста, чем можете, мне через два дня отдавать этот комп, а я не знаю как буду смотреть в глаза хозяину!!!

Появление похожего сообщения об ошибке при установке Windows 95/98/Me — вещь не такая уж и редкая — самые разные сбои могут происходить как при чистой установке системы, так и при установке поверх предыдущей ОС. Поэтому, думаю, есть смысл рассмотреть не только ваш случай, но и вообще наиболее известные проблемы, возникающие во время инсталляции операционной системы и приводящие к аналогичным сообщениям, а также выработать некоторые общие рекомендации, позволяющие избежать подобные неприятные моменты. В принципе, в базе данных [1] службы технический поддержки Microsoft не очень сложно найти решение многих проблем, в частности, и проблем с установкой системы, для тех же, кто пока не имеет возможности работать с Мировой Паутиной, этот справочный материал может оказаться особенно полезной палочкой-выручалочкой.

Fault in MS-DOS Extender — это сообщение появляется, например, в случае использования 512 и более мегабайт оперативной памяти, а также в случае некоторых комбинаций оборудования. Для устранения этого сбоя удалите один из модулей памяти, чтобы её стало менее 512 Мб, удалите из ПК все устройства кроме видеокарты и жёсткого диска, загрузите MS-DOS с дискеты, используйте при этом драйвер EMM386 без ключа NOEMS, либо удалите этот драйвер из Config.sys, либо наоборот — добавьте с параметрами:

device=c:windowsemm386.exe x=A000-FFFF

Переразбейте также диск заново утилитой FDISK и отформатируйте его. Включите двойную буферизацию, добавив в файл Config.sys строку:

device=c:windowssmartdrv.exe /double_buffer

Производите установку системы после загрузки ПК с системной дискеты, сделанной средствами Windows.
SU0409 — программа установки не может получить доступ к некоторым областям жёсткого диска. Отключите антивирусное ПО, в том числе и встроенное в BIOS, отключите программу GoBack и удалите PGP Desktop Security.
Call to Undefined Dynalink — случается во время установки из MS-DOS если установлено ПО от America Online. Переименуйте в режиме защиты от сбоев файл Aolndi.dll в папке WindowsSystem, установите ОС, затем верните исходное название файлу и переустановите ПО America Online.
Cannot open file *.inf — возникает, если программе установки не хватает стандартной памяти, либо повреждён один из INF-файлов. Уберите из AUTOEXEC.BAT драйвер SMARTDRIVE и все остальные ненужные резидентные программы и драйвера, закройте все приложения W3.x, если установка выполняется из-под Windows 3.x.
SU995035. Invalid command option was specified check command line and try again or type setup/? — повреждён файл SETVER.EXE. Удалите повреждённый файл и замените его файлом из дистрибутива Windows.
SUWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module PIDGEN.DLL @ 0001:5F2C, MSGSRV32 caused an General Protection Fault in PIDGEN.DLL — введён неверный CD-Key, либо системная дата установлена неверно. Измените системное время в CMOS Setup, проверьте правильность ввода ключа компакт-диска.
SUWIN An error has occurred in your application. If you choose ignore you should save your work in a new file. If you choose close, your application will terminate, либо SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module SETUPX.DLL, либо SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE — неверные установки в BIOS для встроенной периферии (настройки кэша, тайминги, параметры дисков), некачественный модуль оперативной памяти либо кэша, сбойная материнская плата. Установите в CMOS Setup параметры по умолчанию, проверьте установки Bus Mastering, кэша, памяти, отключите разгон, отключите кэш, отключите Ultra DMA для всех дисков.
SU0167, the specified directory contains a directory named desktop that you must move or rename before Setup can continue. For more information, see SETUP.TXT on Setup Disk 1 or the Windows CD-ROM — при переустановке системы ей не нравится, что существует папка Рабочего стола C:WINDOWSDesktop с пользовательскими файлами. Переименуйте эту папку.

SUWIN This program has caused an illegal operation and will be shut down. SUWIN caused an invalid page fault in module Unknown at 0000:XXXX XXXX — при обновлении системы до Windows Me обнаружен установленный Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. Удалите Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
SUWIN caused illegal instruction in module GDI.EXE at 0001:16EF — сетевые настройки Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS используют неполный редиректор. Запускайте установку после включения полного редиректора, выполнив последовательно команды: net stop и net start full. Либо удалите Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS.
SUWIN.EXE caused an invalid page fault in SETUPX.DLL — в системе с картой Creative Labs SBLive! не загружается драйвер Emu10k1.vxd. Переименуйте файл Emu10k1.vxd.
DriveSpace alarm 11. A program has corrupted memory belonging to DriveSpace — сбой драйвера drvspace.sys. Установите в файле Config.sys такие строки:

То есть отключите драйвер drvspace.sys.
A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C02A0201 in VXD IOS(04)+00001FC9 — установлена программа Corel CD Creator 2.0. Переименуйте файл cdraspi.vxd, либо удалите программу.
A Fatal Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:XXXXXXXX in VXD SYMEvent(02)+XXXXXXXX — установлена несовместимая версия программы от Symantec, например Norton AntiVirus. Удалите в реестре раздел

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesVxDSymEvnt

в файле System.ini удалите упоминание файла symevnt.386, либо удалите программы Symantec.

Обновите BIOS.
W98Setup caused a general protection fault in module w98setup.bin at 0003:00000856. Setup cannot continue. — сетевой путь к папке с дистрибутивом содержит более 240 знаков. Измените путь к папке с дистрибутивом на более короткий.

You need to restart your computer — сбой в работе платы Micro-Star International MSI-5169, либо настройки управления питанием некорректны. Обновите BIOS, отключите кэш, временно используйте PCI-видеокарту. В менеджере устройств установите флажок «Force APM 1.0» в свойствах управления питанием (Advanced Power Management support).

A fatal exception 06 has occurred at <XXXX>:<XXXXXXXX> — установлены старые версии программ McAfee’s VirusScan либо Norton AntiVirus. Удалите упоминания этих программ из autoexec.bat.
An error occurred calling DllInstall in C:WindowsSystemShdocvw.dll (HRESULT=80004005) — на предыдущей ОС установлен Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 с сохранением возможности его удаления. Игнорируйте этот сбой — установка будет продолжена.
SU0350 Setup was unable to display the Nondisclosure Agreement. Setup will now close — сбой при открытии файла License.txt, либо недостаточно памяти. Скопируйте файл License.txt из папки C:Windows в C:WindowsHelp.
Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key, либо This version of Windows does not run on DOS 7.0 or earlier — загрузочный сектор диска заражён вирусом, используются утилиты типа Disk Manager, EZ-Drive, DrivePro либо активировано встроенное в BIOS или иное антивирусное ПО. Используйте антивирусную программу для лечения диска, отключите антивирус, восстановите загрузочный сектор командами FDISK /MBR и SYS C: после загрузки ПК с дискеты Windows. В случае использования утилит Disk Manager, EZ-Drive, DrivePro обратитесь к документации этих программ, иначе при восстановлении MBR возможна потеря всей информации на диске (Для EZ-Drive надо отключить функцию Floppy Boot Protection).

If you have LANtastic server or SuperStor compression, disable it before running Setup. — на некоторых ПК Toshiba Tecra некорректная таблица разделов диска, либо установлен Norton AntiVirus 7.0 Corporate Edition. Также возникает при попытке установить Windows 95 на диск FAT32 или при использовании утилиты типа Disk Manager, EZ-Drive, DrivePro. Запускайте установку из MS-DOS, либо переразбейте и отформатируйте диск. Отключите функцию «File System Realtime Protection» в Norton AntiVirus.
SU0018 Setup could not create files on your startup drive and cannot set up Windows — слишком много файлов (более 512 файлов и папок) в корневой директории диска, либо используется сжатие диска, либо загрузочный диск является сетевым. Очистите диск и откажитесь от его сжатия, удалите менеджер загрузки. Удалите параметр LastDrive из файла Config.sys.
SU991010 Setup was unable to continue. Quit running setup and try running the install from DOS. 0X3F2 — ошибка чтения диска. Отключите антивирусное и другое ПО, препятствующее доступу к диску, запускайте установку из DOS.
SU0325, Windows Millennium setup cannot continue — повреждён один из CAB-файлов дистрибутива. Проверьте систему на вирусы, скопируйте дистрибутив на винчестер либо замените диск с дистрибутивом.
MPREXE.EXE caused an exception 03H in module USER32.DLL at <memory address> либо USR32.EXE caused an exception 03H in module USER32.DLL at <memory address> — антивирусное ПО препятствует обновлению файлов. Удалите антивирусное ПО, восстановите файлы user32.dll, gdi32.dll, winmm.dll из дистрибутива Windows, удалите файл Cmapieng.vxd, дефрагментируйте диск.

Удалите сетевые платы на время установки ОС.

При установке или переустановке системы, конечно же, возможны и другие сбои, причём часто в самом сообщении об ошибке указывается и путь её устранения. Причиной же таких сбоев обычно являются:

неверные настройки BIOS и разгон системы (откажитесь от разгона, отключите кэш, отключите ULTRA DMA, отключите управление питанием, установите винчестер на первый канал первого IDE-контроллера, выберите настройки BIOS Default);
неверная установка системной даты (проверьте время и дату системных часов, замените батарейку);
некорректные настройки Windows или MS-DOS (сделайте в Windows загрузочную дискету и запускайте установку системы после загрузки ПК с этой дискеты);

SU0010

Warning SU0010: Setup has detected a boot manager partition on your computer. If you set up Windows, you cannot use boot manager. For more information, quit Setup, and read SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

SU0011

Warning SU0011: Setup has detected a password-protected partition on your hard drive. To set up Windows 95 (or Windows 98), you first need to remove the password protection. For more information, see SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

SU0012

Warning SU0012: Setup detected an OS/2 or Windows NT file system partition on your hard drive. Files on this partition are not available when you use Windows 95 (or Windows 98). For more information, see SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

Error SU0013: Setup could not create files on your startup drive and cannot set up Windows. If you have HPFS or Windows NT file system, you must create an MS-DOS boot partition. If you have LANtastic server or SuperStor compression, disable it before running Setup. See SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

This error can also occur if you try to install the retail version of Windows 95 over an existing installation of OSR2 on a hard drive using the FAT32 file system.

This error message can also occur if you have a FAT32 partition and you are installing Windows 95 (retail version), which only expects FAT16. This error can also occur if you are running EZ Drive and you have the Floppy Boot Protection option enabled in EZ Drive. You should be able to resolve this error by disabling the Floppy Boot Protection option in EZ Drive.

SU0014

Warning SU0014: Setup has found a hardware device on your computer that is not responding. To try this device again, click Continue.

If problems persist, quit Setup and any other running programs, and then turn your computer off and back on again. Then run Setup again, and choose Safe Recovery when prompted.

SU0015

Warning SU0015: Setup detected a Windows NT file system partition on your hard drive. Files on this partition are not available when you use Windows 95 (or Windows 98).

SU0016

Warning SU0016: Setup has detected OS/2 files on your computer. If you set up Windows 95 (or Windows 98), you may not be able to use OS/2. For more information, quit Setup, and read SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

SU0018

Error SU0018: Setup could not create files on your startup drive and cannot set up Windows.

There may be too many files in the root directory of your startup drive, or your startup drive letter was remapped by network or compression software. For more information, see SETUP.TXT on setup disk 1 or the Windows CD.

SU0019

Warning SU0019: Setup has found commands in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files that are not compatible with Windows.

Setup makes backup copies of your existing AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files and create new ones, if needed.

SU0129

Error SU0129: Setup was unable to determine your computer’s hardware configuration. Setup cannot continue and now close.

SU0130

Warning SU0130: Make sure your username, beta ID, and password are correct.

SU0133

Warning SU0133: Setup was unable to determine your system configuration using full detection. Would you like to try again using minimal detection?

This error may be caused by virus detection that is built into your computer, or by virus detection software running on your computer. To disable built-in virus detection, you need to run the configuration program that came with your computer, or contact your computer’s manufacturer. To disable virus-detection software running on your computer, you may need to remove the lines that start the program from your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files. After you have disabled the virus detection, restart your computer, and then run setup again.

Can be caused by the GoBack (ISV name is WildFile Inc.) program. You must disable the program with the program’s interface before you proceed with Setup.

SU0410

Error SU0410: Cannot open X. This file may be missing or damaged, or there may not be enough memory to continue. Free some memory and then try again. Setup will now close.

SU0433

Error SU0433: Setup could not load the required INF files. Setup will now close.

SU0434

SU0507
