    Собственно s1000R периодически вот так вот как на видео глючит.
    Ошибок никаких не показывает по блокам.
    Аккумулятор свежий.

    какие мысли?

  4. Так CAN это цифровая шина… думаю осциллографом… начать с простого, подмена блоков от заранее исправного, потом всю проводку шевелить…

    Ты на вопрос так и не ответил, какие блоки то? Конкретнее. Все блоки прога показывает рабочие, проверяю через ISTA.
    что CAN это цифровая шина ты мне америку не открыл.

  7. а теперь давай мыслить логично, контакт в шине может пропадать как в проводке так и в блоках, что быстрее все проводку снимать, вскрывать, прозванивать… или начать с того что можно подкинуть другие блоки за 10 минут и исключить их из списка возможных неисправностей….

    Так в том то и дело что показывает якобы все блоки рабочие и с ними все впорядке. Если бы у меня были блоки под рукой все, само собой подцепить не проблема, но крайне странная ошибка сама по себе аккум зарядил поставил день катаюсь, через день моросить начинает как на видео

  9. если я правильно понимаю, то моросить начинает при выкручивании газа, похоже на то что идет вибрация и где то контакт отваливается… а так как мот не глохнет а гаснет приборка, то приборка теряет связь с абс или дме….

    Да пишет еще ошибки по датчику наклона (VDS) и подвеске (DDC)

  11. было у меня такое, но искал обрыв в проводе управление впрыском дизельных форсунок… обычным мультиметром бесполезно, нужно осциллографом…

    Это EWS, скорее всего, с 2016 года на ХР и Р сталкивается народ….дребезг в блоке от ключа, часто устраняется снятием брелока….

  16. Странно, что: Ошибок никаких не показывает по блокам. при потери связи блоков ошибка фиксируется…. а чем ошибки читали? во всех блоках посмотрели?

  18. Какая взаимосвязь?! Ошибка выскакивает на заведенном моторе, питание всей системы осуществляется от генератора… вы можете хоть вынуть АКБ (не рекомендуется).

    Похоже на наводки от высоковольтовой части зажигания. Свечи уже менялись? Оригинал? С сопротивлением?
    Возможно, пробой катушки.

  20. БНВ мотоцикл не глупый, любой пробой привел бы к пропускам…. ошибка есть по пропускам? нет… логично?

    Прямая, на 636, при исправном генераторе, без АКБ мото глох на холостых, это конечно БНВ, а не кава, но все же начинать стоит с самого простого….

На самом деле была суббота, утро, 25 и солнце, хотя бы ради любопытства раз в год на чем-то новом надо прокатиться, БМВ рядом, новый S1000RR там видел и знал, что спроса на тест на него не будет (у БМВ проблема с производством этих мотоциклов и даты доставок на заказ не оглашают, что большинству покупателей просто напросто не подходит).

Пока 10 минут ехал до салона увидел их S1000RR на дороге, пилот и его подружка, выруливали на шоссе, ок, значит, все-таки, придется подождать какое-то время.

В салоне меня помнят и знают по имени, хотя я к ним минимум год не заходил. Даже немного неудобно, ведь я там перекатал много мотоциклов, не купив ни одного, они мне еще бесплатно болтов для Сузуки дали однажды, реально выручили, ну делал у них сервис разок и что-то из одежды давно купил, но в принципе от меня им как от козла молока, и тем не менее всегда приветливы и рады со мной поговорить.

Расписывать долго не буду, короткая заметка себе на память, тест — от 30кмч до примерно 80кмч, два перевала и через деревушки, на шоссе не выезжал, там ограничение 120, а это не скорость даже для моей 600ки, не говоря уже про 204лс (меряли и выше) и 193.5кг с М-пакетом и дисками из углеволокна.

Модель с полным фаршем, это значит к электронным примочкам добавили Pro Mode, легкая батарея, М-седло, легкие диски из углеволокна, М-шасси с настраиваемой высотой сзади, и вот эта эксклюзивная Motorsport окраска.

С М-пакетом мотоцикл весит на 15кг меньше чем предыдущая модель с легкими коваными дисками. Мотор стал на 4кг легче, выхлоп на 1.3кг легче чем на предыдущей версии и весит как один цилиндр от BMW G310R. В этом мотоцикле абсолютно все новое, новый мотор, новое шасси, новый маятник, новая подвеска, новая инструменталка, новый внешний вид, даже зеркала новые и сзади подсветка, и звук. Абсолютно новый подход во всем, и это немедленно чувствуется. Выхлопная система торчит как и раньше некрасиво, и я не любитель Моторспорт окраски, мне больше нравится черно-красная со стандартного мотоцикла, но эту окраску на М выбрать нельзя.

Новые зеркала, теперь корпус фиксированный, а зеркала внутри и их можно ворочать. Таким образом на высокой скорости нет вибрации и в зеркала видно. Я не проверял. На моей Дайтоне такой же подход, но если правильно помню, на скорости все равно есть вибрация. На Дайтоне руку зеркала можно загнуть к обвесу, не знаю можно ли это на БМВ. Могу сказать, что в зеркалах БМВ отличная обзорность назад, на Дайтоне — хуже. На Сузуки тоже хорошая обзорность и зеркала можно загнуть, это помогает когда надо профильтроваться между близко стоящих машин.

Диски из углеволокна, Marzocchi вилка, и тормозные суппорта Heyes. Одно время Marzocchi была на гране банкротства, но как видно существует до сих пор, может кто-то фирму купил. Обычно Marzocchi вилки ставят на Дукати и я удивлен, что на М-BMW нет премиальных Ohlins. И тормоза тоже не ожидаемые Brembo с суппортами последнего писка моды Stylema, а Heyes. Однако жаловаться не приходится, электронная подвеска замечательно работает на дороге, жесткая, но не слишком, реагирует как надо и сглаживает где требуется. К тормозам тоже нарекания нет, офигенные тормоза! Радиаторы торчат не особо красиво, на Сузуки они закрыты щитками, на R1 тоже красивее сделано.

Режимы Pro Mode — можно настроить абсолютно все и сохранить в памяти, есть 3 памяти, то есть можно сохранить настройки для трех треков или например холодный/горячий/мокрый асфальт для одного трека.

Изменили даже устройство руля. Теперь на БМВ рукоятки привинчены совсем по другому. Чтобы быстро поменять рукоятки, для трека например, можно развинтить один болт и вытащить рукоятку в сторону. Не требуется снимать мост/корону, или как там по-русски tripple clamp называется. Естественно есть круиз-контроль и подогрев рукояток, Трекшн Контроль можно менять на ходу кнопочкой. Вот рычажок включения поворотного сигнала для меня сидит слишком низко, постоянно приходилось за ним охотиться, за 40 минут езды не привык.

А это — мой Сузуки. Все намного проще и выглядит дешевле, ни подогрева, ни круиз-контроля, чтобы поменять рукоятку нужно снять мост и стянуть рукоятку через верх. Но поворотнички — на правильном месте.

Приборная панель — 6.5 дюймов, отличное разрешение и все видно даже под сильным солнцем. Есть два режима информации, один, видимо, для трека, там по всему экрану лента оборотов, а это второй режим, мне он очень нравится, не перегружена информацией и в то же время показывает много интересного, слева — насколько используешь трекшн контроль, справа — насколько используешь тормоза, посередине показывает угол наклона, а по сторонам максимально достигнутый угол наклона. Время, скорость, обороты и остаточное топливо, и режим. Что еще надо, в принципе? Я ездил в режиме Динамик — полная мощность и все системы работают. Тракшн контрол даже ни разу не включился, 40 градусов наклона максимально влево и 33 вправо, есть над чем работать, но это был один проезд по серпантинам на новом для меня и не моем мотоцикле, уверен будь он моим и немного практики — удалось бы похвастаться больше. :-) В любом случае, инструменталка выполнена на 5+. Мне кажется это лучшее что я видел, включая Дукати и Априлию. Немного напоминает Триумф Стрит/Спид, там тоже черный фон. Мне кажется на черном фоне видно лучше. На Сузуки тоже черный фон, но белые цифры, размер похожий, видно отлично, но чувствуется устаревшим, без цветов-то, хотя это не проблема для меня, но Сузуки экран немного перегружен информацией, там есть например мгновенный расход топлива и средний расход топлива и сколько километров осталось на баке, это слишком много инфо, нахрена мне мгновенный расход топлива? Дайте мне углы наклона! На Сузуки, однако, есть температура воздуха и температура воды, это, я считаю, полезная информация.

Внешний вид…отвлечемся от Сузуки, он выглядит как он выглядит и мне нравится как он выглядит, мне нравится фара по центру и две подсвечивающиеся реснички. Что касается нового S1000RR, совершенно новый подход к внешнему виду. Исчезла ассиметричная мордочка, она мне всегда нравилась, легко узнаваемая и одновременно какая-то сумасшедшая, причем ты знал, что это сделано не для ‘красоты’, а ради снижения массы. Есть у предыдущей S1000RR какое-то родство с тогдашней BMW 1M, у этой машинки тоже был вид душевнобольного на гране срыва, который вот-вот сделает что-нибудь ужасающее, эти вытаращенные глаза, взгляд попавшего в свет фар оленя…мне 1М до сих пор очень нравится, а вот М2 уже не то…и новый S1000RR меня лично видом спереди не радует, нет уникальности, какая-то смесь Ducati Panigale + Yamaha R1, и ноздря от предыдущей модели. Да, я бы предпочел новый S1000RR со старым лицом, но это все лирика, в принципе внешне меня новый БМВ не отторгает, а едет он лучше чем предыдущая модель.

Что касается езды, опять, 40 минут соблюдая скорость по серпантинам, через поселки с пробками, светофорами, 30кмч участками, и немного по пустым загородным дорогам между полей…

В первом же повороте я подумал: ‘Черт, это же Дайтона!’ То есть когда я катал предыдущую модель у меня возникала мысль о Сузуки GSXR1000, а новая модель сразу сассоциировалась с Triumph Daytona. Потому что новый S1000RR — очень легкий и поворотливый! Тут конечно надо отдать дань легким углеволокнистым дискам, даже на невысокой скорости чувствуется разница, я не могу себе даже представить как она чувствуется на гоночном треке! Если я когда-либо собрался бы что-то менять на Сузуки, первым делом это была бы смена дисков на углеволокно. То есть я считаю хорошая подвеска (с правильной настройкой) и шины — самое важное, но легкие диски идут сразу за ними.

Электронная подвеска на новом S1000RR — высший класс, по крайней мере для дорог. Помню ездил на Honda CBR1000RR SP Fireblade, там тоже электронная подвеска, вообще отличный мотоцикл, мягкий и легкий, как часто говорят на Хонде легче всего ездить, но на SP помню на ямах зад ходил вверх и вниз как на рессоре, на S1000RR ничего такого нет, подвеска и жесткая и одновременно не жесткая, плотная, но одновременно сглаживает все ямы и не прыгает. На Сузуки аналоговая (но продвинутая Balance Free Fork/Shock) подвеска, я ее так и не удосужился настроить с тех пор как купил, и сейчас она в жестком режиме, на кочках иногда подпрыгивает мотоцикл. То есть сравнить не могу, во всех тестах GSXR1000R положительно отзываются о вилке, но на S1000RR ничего вручную настраивать не надо, поменял режим и едь, или в Pro Mode можно настроить отбой и сжатие и сохранить, вуаля!

Инструменталка, как писал, супер. Зеркала — супер. Легкое сцепление.

Посадка — удобная. Мне предыдущая модель не нравилась за седло, оно мне по форме не подходило, я скатывался к баку. На этом М S1000RR особое М седло, оно жесткое и с особым ‘рисунком’ благодаря которому отлично держит и никуда не скатываешься, но одновременно комфортабельное. Вырезы в баке сделаны как под меня, в них засовываешь колени и отлично держишься, не надо никаких Stompgrip. И вообще очень удобно сидеть, за весь тест не появилось никаких болей, не затекли руки/ноги. Отлично, БМВ, просто отлично.

Реакция на закрытие/открытие газа, я попробовал на разных скоростях, на разных передачах, на холодный мотор, на горячий мотор, под горку, в пробках…5+, нет рывков, электронный газ прекрасно настроен. Напоминает Триумф. Мой Сузуки, даже после прошивки, далеко позади в этом плане. :-(
Однако, что мне не понравилось в газе, очень надо крутить рукоятку, так было и на Honda CBR1000RR SP, я писал. Не то чтобы надо выкручивать до конца, но точно крутил больше чем на своей Сузуки, не говоря уже о любом мотоцикле с троссиком. Может еще и ожидания были слишком высокие, но я кручу, а БМВ разгоняется как-то ‘медленно’, как швейцарский поезд размеренно и плавно, нет рывка как на моем 954 Fireblade, даже мой Сузуки с электронным газом реагирует поагрессивнее мне кажется. Очень трудно что-то доказать, но все такие тесты часто именно на чувствах построены, и по чувствам S1000RR разгоняется плавнее и менее агрессивно. Хотя это обманное чувство, потому что на самом деле разгоняется этот мотоцикл очень быстро, а набрав немного оборотов просто ужасающе быстро. Это очень-очень-очень опасный мотоцикл для швейцарских дорог с ограничениями и драконскими штрафами, можно очень легко превысить скорость, именно из-за плавности работы газа, отсутствия наростания давления ветра (типично для спорта) и довольно тихого звука. Однако это не значит, что на этом мотоцикле сложно ездить 30-50кмч, очень просто, нет рывков и посадка удобная. Просто надо себя очень контроллировать, а то чревато…

Еще одна штука по газу, из-за того, что так сильно надо выкручивать рукоятку, или по крайней мере я выкручивал, то при торможении часто еще под газом, под гору это не очень, тормозишь и одновременно мотоцикл хочет ехать вперед, приотпускаешь тормоз и он начинает слишком разгонятся, это в серпантинах под гору немного убивает доверие. Я об этом сказал потом в салоне, шеф, он катал этот мотоцикл на треке, сказал, что БМВ знает про проблему что люди, когда резко тормозят, все еще держат мотоцикл под газом, и поэтому на этом S1000RR встроена функция, когда резко тормозишь в экстремальной ситуации, то электроника отключает газ, даже если у тебя еще вывернута ручка. Получается на не экстремальных торможениях это не работает. В принципе это не проблема, просто требует привыкания, по крайней мере для меня, на других мотоциклах, включая предыдущую версию S1000RR, у меня таких проблем не было.

Звук. Скажем сразу, звук »важен» когда едешь медленно, когда набираешь скорость звук ветра перебивает звук мотора/выхлопа. Как со стороны мотоцикл звучит я не могу сказать и мне, как пилоту, это не интересно. Звук на новом S1000RR — слабый. Евро 5 ограничения, к сожалению. Нет агрессии, не то что, скажем, у BMW S1000R родстера, где он звуком тебе как бы говорит: «чувак, ты чего едешь 50, я хочу ехать 150! Давай, давай!» То есть мотоцикл очень тихий, и одновременно мотор звучит как 100-процентная швейная машинка, тттттт.» Наверное это можно улучшить поменяв выхлоп, но если только легальную банку ставить — не думаю что будет намного лучше. В России можно наверное прямоток заебашить, но не у нас. Мой 954 Фаер тоже очень тихий, но у него мотор звучит и вибрирует погрубее. На моей Сузуке уже в базе, с этим громадным фабричным выхлопом звук был агрессивнее и сильнее, ну как у настоящего литрового спорта, а с новой банкой еще басистее. Причем у меня на Сузуки мотор грубее звучит, вибрирует без балансировочного вала, а сейчас еще вибрирует клапан выхлопной системы, расшатался, надо подтянуть, но мне нравится этот звук ведра болтов, типичный звук Сузуки, я его люблю. БМВ мотор не вибрирует (на низких скоростях по крайней мере), звучит как швейная машинка (я никогда не думал, что какой-то мотоцикл в этом «швейно-машиновом» плане превзойдет мой 997 Турбо) и выхлопная система не звучит. С одной стороны хорошо, не напрягает в длинных путешествиях, можно музыку слушать в наушники, с другой стороны нет бывшей звуковой агрессии. Еще интересная фича, под сброс газа и под горку мотоцикл начинает отплевываться из выхлопной трубы, очень зажигающе звучит, напоминает, опять-таки Дайтону, но у Дайтоны отплевывание более натуральное чтоли, всегда звучит по разному и по разному долго.

Квикшифтер/блиппер — работают отлично, ничего другого от современных мотоциклов не ожидаешь, на моем Сузуки не хуже.

Ха! Вот еще, видимо у БМВ нет заднего фонаря, только тормозной фонарь. Задняя подсветка — в поворотничках. Хотя может там какой-то сенсор освещения и в темноте включается лампа, но днем горели только LED поворотнички.

мотоцикл стал намного сильнее на средних, уличных, оборотах, и 100нм от 5500 оборотов и до конца, это серьезно!

Не знаю что еще сказать. Мотоцикл — понравился. Теперь он действительно как 600ка рулится. На нем можно медленно ездить, на нем можно, естественно, очень быстро ездить, можно возить пассажира (та пара передо мной отсутствовала почти час, а по-приезду жена водителя сказала что она хочет этот мотоцикл :-) ), можно ездить на трек и точно можно ездить на длинные дистанции, по крайней мере я могу спокойно проехать на этом S1000RR 300-400км за день по перевалам и не устать, это для меня длинные дистанции.

После S1000RR решил прокатиться на Yamaha R1. Это представительство прежде всего BMW, но с прошлого года — eще и Yamaha. Yamaha R1 — мой давний знакомый, я ее катал в 2015 году когда она только вышла, тогда я сказал, что этот мотоцикл чувствуется как 600-кубовый по размерам и управлению, но реакция на газ, в режиме А, а никаких заторможенных режимов я не признаю, очень дерганная. Потом я катал его на треке в Италии, и это было вау! Попросил их выкатить R1 для меня, она где-то в глубине гаража стояла, видимо не ожидают, что будет спрос на тест-драйвы этого мотоцикла, в принципе прошло 4 года, а он мало изменился и кто хотел — уже поездил или купил.

Скажу следующее, мотоцикл больше не дергается. Это 2018 модель, и заметно, что поработали над электронным газом, реагирует не в пример Сузуки. Добавили блиппер, теперь можно без сцепления переключаться как вверх так и вниз, работает, естественно, без нареканий. Изменили ли что-то еще? Мне кажется нет.

В матовом черном мне очень нравится, такое злое черное облако, хотя такой колор требует ухода, потому что сильно пачкается. Кишки выхлопной системы торчат как и на БМВ, хотя чуть пообгорели и на черном фоне из не так видно. Банку надо несомненно заменить на Akrapovic, она выглядит намного лучше.

Что я могу сказать про R1…мне кажется из тройки тут представленных мотоциклов он больше чем другие требует пилота с навыками. Да, на нем можно ездить медленно, и даже новичок, если не с отбитыми мозгами и имеет уважение к такой технике, может купить и ездить на нем, ездить на трек и учиться. Не для совсем зеленых, однако. Для совсем зеленых подойдет БМВ, с ним легче по многим параметрам. Сузуки, в принципе, тоже, но до БМВ он не дотягивает, на Сузуки надо крутить, прошивать и так далее. R1 — он заточен под трек, это совершенно ясно. Намного неудобнее БМВ, седло врезалось мне в ляжки, от мотора и выхлопа очень сильно нагревались ноги, я ездил в высоких мотокроссовках Dainese D-WP, очень быстро затекла правая рука, пришлось ее ‘вытряхивать’, это из-за вибраций и из-за очень спортивной посадки…На длинные расстояния я бы на R1 врядли бы поехал, R1 утомляет. Более того, в серпантинах я себя увереннее чувствовал на БМВ и на Сузуки, не знаю почему, но на R1 страшнее и напряженнее, и в итоге я ехал медленнее.

Еще наверное дань гоночнуму треку, угол наклона экрана. Экран, во первых, по сравнению с БМВ и с Сузуки — малюсенький. Но главное, под солнцем, не видно включенных поворотников, они маленькими лампочками по краям в черном фоне, а угол наклона такой, что их мигания не видно, вот несколько раз забывал их выключать. Пытался даже рукой наклонить экран, но он фиксированный. Наверное если прижаться головой к баку видно будет хорошо, но на обычных дорогах экран не лучший, и маленький.

Дополнительно про R1. Мне кажется из этих трех мотоциклов быстрее всего потеряешь права именно на R1. БМВ — мощнее, но звук мотора R1 — это нечто! У всех трех мотоциклов — рядная четверка, но у R1 — нерегулярные вспышки (cross plane коленвал), технология из МоtoGP, взята чтобы сгладить реакции на задней шине. Из-за этой технологии мотор звучит совсем по-другому. Во-первых создается впечатление, что мотор — сухой, металл по металлу. На совсем низких оборотах он тикает как БМВ, но чуть поднял их — и начинается симфония cross plane, при этом мгновенно перемещаешься в MotoGP, но главное, если у БМВ и Сузуки с набором скорости вой мотора перекрывается свистом ветра по шлему, в R1 наоборот нарастает звук мотора, и чем быстрее едешь тем круче он звучит, и еще его чувствуешь всем телом, через педали, через седло. Из-за этого звука постоянно хочется ехать быстрее, больше оборотов, только чтобы послушать этот мотор, который еще и тянет отменно, даже до 7000 оборотов, где у него скачок, потому что это гоночный мотор и все ниже 7000 — это для девочек :-).

Подведем итог:

В сумме качеств — 2019 BMW S1000RR лучший из трех мотоциклов. И его надо покупать только в топовом М пакете с дисками из углеволокна.
По звуку — R1 на первом месте, далее Suzuki GSXR1000R (громче и агрессивнее чем БМВ и грубее), на третьем месте БМВ.
На длинные расстояния — S1000RR или GSXR1000R, с учетом того, что у Сузуки надо настроить подвеску вручную, а у БМВ — в принципе сел и поехал.

Для гоночного ощущения — R1.
На трек — S1000RR или R1. Думаю БМВ прежде всего, он новее, читал, что у R1 тормоза дубовые, но на дороге я не заметил негативов. У GSXR1000R тормоза хуже чем у S1000RR и R1, надо дорабатывать, а это время и деньги.

Что касается меня — поменял бы я свой GSXR1000R на новый S1000RR? Если для дорог общего пользования — нет, не поменял бы. Да, у Сузуки длинный ход тормозного рычага, но мотоцикл тормозит более чем достаточно для дорог, просто требует небольшого привыкания если переходишь с мотоцикла с мгновенными тормозами. Дерганье на закрытие/открытие газа? После прошивки стало лучше, в последнюю поездку в горы не замечал так, чтобы напрягало, а в городе на нем не езжу. Звучит отлично, мощность более чем надо, удобый, нравится внешний вид. То есть меня устраивает мой GSXR1000R, да, надо настроить подвеску в конце концов.

Если бы что-то я хотел, и были бы деньги, то я бы оставил себе GSXR1000R и купил бы R1 Anniversary Edition, 2016 года лимитированная модель в окраске, я ее называю, speedbump yellow, это окраска Кенни Робертса, который выиграл чемпионат 500сс три раза на Yamaha, 1978-1980. Самая любимая моя окраска, и позолоченые колеса, и Акрапович банка. Я бы этот мотоцикл выкатывал иногда на серпантины, только чтобы послушать звук этого мотора.

When you purchased your BMW motorcycle, you chose a model with individual equipment. This Rider’s Manual describes the optional extras (OE) offered by BMW and selected optional accessories (OA). This explains why the manual may also contain descriptions of equipment which you have not ordered. Please note, too, that your motorcycle might not be exactly as illustrated in this manual on account of country-specific differences.

If your motorcycle contains equipment that has not been described, its description can be found in a separate manual.

All dimensions, weights and power ratings stated in the Rider’s Manual are quoted to the standards and comply with the tolerance requirements of the Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. (DIN). Versions for individual countries may differ.

Actuality

The high safety and quality standards of BMW motorcycles are maintained by constant development work on designs, equipment and accessories. Because of this, your motorcycle may differ from the information supplied in the Rider’s Manual. Nor can BMW Motorrad entirely rule out errors and omissions. Warnings are indicated by the corresponding warning lights.

Warnings for which there is no dedicated warning light are indicated by ‘General’ warning light 1 showing in combination with a warning such as, for example, 2 appearing on the multifunction display. The ‘general’ warning light shows red or yellow, depending on the urgency of the warning.

If two or more warnings occur at the same time, all the appropriate warning lights and warning symbols appear, alternating with warning words as applicable. The possible warnings are listed on the next pages.

The key being used is not authorised for starting, or communication between key and engine electronics is disrupted.

Remove all other vehicle keys from the same ring as the key used for the vehicle.

Use the reserve key. Have the defective key re-

placed, preferably by an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Coolant temperature too high

The coolant-temperature reading flashes.

Riding with overheated engine

Engine damage

Compliance with the information set out below is essential.

Possible cause:

The coolant temperature is too high.

If possible, ride in the part-load range to cool down the engine. If the coolant temperature

is frequently too high, have the fault rectified as soon as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Engine in emergencyoperation mode

General warning light shows yellow.

Engine! is displayed.

WARNING

Unusual ride characteristics when engine running in emergency-operation mode

Risk of accident

Adapt your style of riding accordingly: avoid accelerating sharply and overtaking.

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault. The engine is in emergency-operation mode. In exceptional cases, the engine stops and refuses to start.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably

an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

You can continue to ride, but bear in mind that the usual engine power or the full range of engine rpm might not be available.

Severe fault in the engine control

General warning light flashes yellow.

Engine! is displayed.

WARNING

Engine damage when running in emergency-operation mode

Risk of accident

Adapt your style of riding accordingly: ride slowly, avoid sharp accelerating and overtaking.

If possible, have the vehicle brought in and the fault

rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault which may cause severe secondary faults. The engine is in emergency-operation mode.

Avoid high load and rpm ranges if possible.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

It is possible to continue to ride but not recommended.

Emissions warning

The malfunction indicator lamp lights up

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault which affects the pollutant emissions.

Have the fault rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

You can continue riding; pollutant emissions are higher than the threshold values.

Bulbs for flashing turn indicators defective

LAMP! appears on the display.

WARNING

Vehicle overlooked in traffic due to failure of the lights on the vehicle

Safety risk

Replace defective bulbs as soon as possible; always carry a complete set of spare bulbs if possible.

Possible cause:

Bulb for turn indicator defective. Replacing bulbs for front and rear turn indicators ( 151).

Rear light defective

General warning light shows yellow.

LAMPR! appears on the display.

Possible cause:

Bulb for combined rear light and brake light is defective.

The LED rear light must be replaced. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Front lights defective

General warning light shows yellow.

LAMPF! appears on the display.

WARNING

Vehicle overlooked in traffic due to failure of the lights on the vehicle

Safety risk

Replace defective bulbs as soon as possible; always carry a complete set of spare bulbs if possible.

Possible cause:

Bulb for front parking light is defective.

Bulb for combined rear light and brake light is defective.

The LED rear light must be replaced. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Motorcycle dropped

General warning light shows yellow.

VDS! (Vertical Down Sensor) appears on the blank display. Possible cause:

The drop sensor has detected a drop and has cut out the engine. Bring the motorcycle to the

upright position.

Switch the ignition off and then on again or switch the kill switch on and then off again.

Drop sensor defective

General warning light shows yellow.

VDS! (Vertical Down Sensor) appears on the display. Possible cause:

A defect in the drop sensor has been detected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

ABS self-diagnosis not completed

ABS telltale and warning light flashes.

Possible cause:

The ABS is not available, because self-diagnosis did not complete. The motorcycle has to move forward a few metres for the wheel-speed sensors to be tested.

Pull away slowly. Bear in mind that the ABS is not available until self-diagnosis has completed.

ABS switched off

ABS telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The rider has switched off the ABS.

ABS Switching on ( 53).

ABS fault

ABS telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The ABS control unit has detected a fault. The ABS function is not available or the functionality is subject to certain restrictions. You can continue to ride the

vehicle, but make due provision for the fact that the ABS function is not available or is only

conditionally available. Bear in mind the more detailed in-

formation on situations that can lead to an ABS fault ( 115). Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

ASC intervention

ASC telltale and warning light quick-flashes.

The ASC has detected a degree of instability at the rear wheel and has intervened to reduce torque. The warning light flashes for longer than ASC intervention lasts. This affords the rider visual feedback on control intervention even after the critical situation has been dealt with.

ASC self-diagnosis not completed

ASC telltale and warning light slow-flashes.

Possible cause:

ASC self-diagnosis not completed

The ASC function is not available, because self-diagnosis did not complete. (The motorcycle has to reach a defined minimum speed with the engine running for the wheelspeed sensors to be checked: min 5 km/h)

an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DTC intervention

with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)OE

DTC telltale light quickflashes.

Gear not trained

with shift assistant ProOE

The gear indicator flashes. The Pro shift assistant is

not available. Possible cause:

The gearbox sensor is not fully trained.

Engage neutral gear N and, with the vehicle at a standstill, let the engine run for at least 10 seconds to train the idle gear.

Engage all gears with clutch actuation and ride at least 10 seconds with the engaged gear.

The gear indicator starts to flash when the gearbox sensor has been trained successfully.

Once the transmission sensor has been fully taught-in, shift assistant Pro will operate as described ( 125).

If the training process was not successful, have the fault rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DWA battery weak

with alarm system (DWA)OE

General warning light shows yellow.

DWALO! appears on the display.

NOTICE

This error message shows briefly only after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

Possible cause:

The integral battery in the antitheft alarm has lost a significant proportion of its original capacity. There is no assurance of how long the anti-theft alarm can remain operational if the vehicle’s battery is disconnected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DWA battery flat

with alarm system (DWA)OE

General warning light shows yellow.

DWA! appears on the display.

NOTICE

This error message shows briefly only after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

Possible cause:

The integral battery in the antitheft alarm has lost its entire original capacity. There is no assurance that the anti-theft alarm will be operational if the vehicle’s battery is disconnected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Dynamic ESA fault

General warning light shows yellow.

D-ESA! appears on the display.

Possible cause:

The Dynamic ESA control unit has detected a fault. In this condition, the motorcycle has too much damping and is uncomfortable to drive, especially on roads in poor condition.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a

specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

CAN open circuit/short circuit

General warning light shows red.

NO CAN (Controller Area Network) appears on the display. Possible cause:

A fault in the Controller Area Network has been detected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

No coding

General warning light shows yellow.

NO CODING appears on the display.

Possible cause:

A coding fault has been detected.

The reading remains visible for 10 seconds before disappearing automatically.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Service-due date has passed

General warning light shows yellow.

SERVICE! is displayed.

Service-due indicator

The service-due date 1 shows when a service is due within one month.

When a service is due within 1000 km (US model, 700 miles), countdown distance 1 is shown

and counted down in steps of 100 km (US model, 100 miles). This reading appears briefly after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

If service is overdue, the due date or the odometer

reading at which service was due is accompanied by the ‘General’ warning light showing yellow. The word «Service» remains permanently visible.

NOTICE

If the service-due indicator appears more than a month before the service date, the date saved in the instrument cluster must be adjusted. This situation can occur if the battery was disconnected for a prolonged period of time.

If you want to have the date set consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Fuel down to reserve

General warning light shows yellow.

FUEL! appears on the display.

WARNING

Irregular engine operation or engine shutdown due to lack of fuel

Risk of accident, damage to catalytic converter

Do not run the fuel tank dry.

Possible cause:

The fuel tank contains no more than the reserve quantity of fuel.

Fuel reserve

approx. 4 l

Refuelling ( 85).

Range

The range readout 1 RANGE indicates how far you can ride with the fuel remaining in the tank.

This distance is calculated on the basis of average consumption and the quantity of fuel on board.

When the motorcycle is propped on its side stand the slight angle of inclination means that the sensor cannot

register the fuel level correctly. This is the reason why the range is calculated only

when the side stand is in the retracted position.

The range reading appears automatically on the multifunction display when fuel is down to the reserve level.

After a refuelling stop, range is recalculated if the amount of fuel in the tank is greater than the reserve quantity.

The calculated range is only an approximate figure.

Ignition switch/steering lock

Keys

You receive 2 ignition keys. Please consult the information on the electronic immobiliser (EWS) if a key is lost or mislaid ( 39). Ignition switch/steering lock, fuel filler cap lock and seat lock are all operated with the same key.

If you wish you can arrange to have the cases and the topcase fitted with locks that can be opened with the ignition key as well. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Lock the handlebars

ATTENTION

Handlebars turned in wrong direction when motorcycle propped on side stand

Risk of damage to parts if vehicle topples

On level ground, always turn the handlebars to the left to set the steering lock.

In all other cases it is the lie of the ground that determines the direction in which the handlebars should be turned.

If the camber of the roadway permits, turn the handlebars all the way to the left.

Turn the vehicle key to position 1, while moving the handlebars slightly.

Ignition, lights and all function circuits switched off.

Handlebars are locked. Vehicle key can be removed.

Switching on ignition

Insert the vehicle key into the ignition switch and turn it to position 1.

Side lights and all function circuits are switched on.

Engine can be started. with daytime riding lightOE

When the ignition is switched on the daytime riding light comes on briefly (welcome light). The welcome light goes

out immediately in the following circumstances:

Turn indicators or hazard warning lights are switched on. Light switches are operated. Engine is started.

Pre-Ride-Check is performed. ( 76)

ABS self-diagnosis is in progress. ( 77)

ASC self-diagnosis is in progress. ( 78)

Switching off ignition

Turn the ignition key to position 1.

When the ignition is switched off, the instrument cluster remains switched on for a short time and displays any existing fault messages.

Handlebars not locked.

Electrically powered accessories remain operational for a limited period of time.

The battery can be recharged via the socket.

Vehicle key can be removed.

with daytime riding lightOE

The daytime riding light goes out soon after the ignition is switched off (headlight courtesy delay feature).

Electronic immobiliser EWS

The electronic design of the motorcycle allows it to access data stored in the ignition key by means of a ring antenna located in the ignition switch/steering lock. The engine control unit will not permit the engine to be started unless the key is identified as “authorised”.

NOTICE

A spare key attached to the same ring as the ignition key used to start the engine could «irritate» the electronics, in which case the enabling signal for starting is not issued. The

EWS! warning appears in the multifunction display.

Always keep the spare key separately from the ignition key.

If you lose your key, you can have it barred by your authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

If you wish to do this, you will need to bring all other keys for the motorcycle with you. The engine cannot be started by a barred key, but a key that has been barred can subsequently be reactivated.

You can obtain emergency/extra keys only through an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer. The keys are part of an integrated security system, so the dealer is under an obligation to check the legitimacy of all applications for replacement/extra keys.

The side lights switch on automatically when the ignition is switched on.

NOTICE

The side lights place a strain on the battery. Do not switch the ignition on for longer than absolutely necessary.

The low-beam headlight switches on automatically when the engine is switched on.

with daytime riding lightOE

In daytime the daytime riding light can be switched on as an alternative to the low-beam headlight.

High-beam headlight and headlight flasher

Switching on ignition ( 38).

Push switch 1 forward to switch on the high-beam headlight.

Pull switch 1 back to operate the headlight flasher.

Headlight courtesy delay feature

Switch off the ignition.

Immediately after switching off the ignition, push button 1 to the back and hold it in this position until the headlight courtesy delay feature comes on.

The vehicle lighting lights for one minute and is automatically switched back off.

This can be used after parking the vehicle, for example, to light the way to the house door.

Parking lights

Switching off ignition ( 39).

Immediately after switching off the ignition, push button 1 to the left and hold it in this position until the parking lights come on.

Switch the ignition on and off again to switch off the parking lights.

Daytime riding light with daytime riding lightOE

Automatic or manual daytime riding light

The daytime riding light is switched on and off either automatically or manually.

You can switch the automatic function for the daytime riding light on or off in the menu.

Recommended setting:

SETUP EQIP: DRL AUTO ON (DRL: daytime riding light)

You can switch the automatic function for the daytime riding light off temporarily by pressing the button. Pressing the button for the daytime riding light has no effect on the setting in the menu.

Automatic daytime riding light

WARNING

The automatic riding light control system cannot replace your personal assess-

ment of lighting conditions, particularly in foggy or misty weather.

Safety risk

Manually switch on the lowbeam headlight in poor lighting conditions.

Start engine ( 75).

NOTICE

The changeover between daytime riding light and lowbeam headlight including front side lights can be effected automatically.

Symbol 1 for the automatic daytime riding light appears on the display.

If symbol 1 does not appear, this is because the SETUP EQIP:DRL AUTO OFF is

active. Proceed as follows in order to switch the daytime riding light to automatic:

If the ambient brightness decreases below a certain value, the low beam headlight is automatically switched on (e. B. in a tunnel). When sufficient ambient brightness is detected, the

daytime riding light is switched back on.

The indicator light for the daytime riding light shows if

the daytime riding light is active.

Manual operation of the light when the automatic system is switched on

Requirement

Automatic for daytime riding light is switched on.

Press button 1 (e. g. when you ride into a tunnel, and the response of the automatic daytime running light to the

change in ambient brightness is delayed).

Automatic for daytime riding light is switched off.

The low-beam headlight and the front side lights are switched on.

Press button 1 again.

Automatic for daytime riding light is re-activated.

The daytime riding light is switched on again as soon as ambient light is bright enough.

The indicator light for the daytime riding light shows if

Manual daytime riding light

Requirement

Automatic for daytime riding light must be switched off.

WARNING

Activation of daytime riding light in the dark.

Poorer vision and oncoming traffic dazzled.

Do not use the daytime running light when it is dark.

NOTICE

By comparison with the lowbeam headlight, the daytime running light makes the vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic. This improves daytime visibility.

The hazard warning flashers place a strain on the battery. Do not use the hazard warning

If you press a turn-indicator button with the hazard warning flashers switched on, the turnindicator function is activated

instead of the hazard warning flashers, and remains active until you release the button. The hazard warning flashers

recommence flashing as soon as the button is released.

The turn indicators are cancelled automatically after the defined riding time and distance. The defined time and distance

can be set by an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Ignition can be switched off. To switch off the hazard warning flashers, switch on the ignition and press button 1 again.

All maintenance and repair work on the motorcycle is documented in Chapter 12. This record of the maintenance work you have had performed on your vehicle is a precondition for generous treatment of goodwill claims. When the time comes to sell your BMW, please remember

When you purchased your BMW motorcycle, you chose a model with individual equipment. This Rider’s Manual describes the optional extras (OE) offered by BMW and selected optional accessories (OA). This explains why the manual may also contain descriptions of equipment which you have not ordered. Please note, too, that your motorcycle might not be exactly as illustrated in this manual on account of country-specific differences.

If your motorcycle contains equipment that has not been described, its description can be found in a separate manual.

Technical data

All dimensions, weights and power ratings stated in the Rider’s Manual are quoted to the standards and comply with the tolerance requirements of the Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. (DIN). Versions for individual countries may differ.

Actuality

The high safety and quality standards of BMW motorcycles are maintained by constant development work on designs, equipment and accessories. Because of this, your motorcycle may differ from the information supplied in the Rider’s Manual. Nor can BMW Motorrad entirely rule out errors and omissions. Warnings are indicated by the corresponding warning lights.

Warnings for which there is no dedicated warning light are indicated by ‘General’ warning light 1 showing in combination with a warning such as, for example, 2 appearing on the multifunction display. The ‘general’ warning light shows red or yellow, depending on the urgency of the warning.

If two or more warnings occur at the same time, all the appropriate warning lights and warning symbols appear, alternating with warning words as applicable. The possible warnings are listed on the next pages.

Remove all other vehicle keys from the same ring as the key used for the vehicle.

The coolant-temperature reading flashes.

ATTENTION

Riding with overheated engine

Compliance with the information set out below is essential.

Possible cause:

The coolant temperature is too high.

If possible, ride in the part-load range to cool down the engine. If the coolant temperature

is frequently too high, have the fault rectified as soon as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Engine in emergencyoperation mode

General warning light shows yellow.

Engine! is displayed.

WARNING

Unusual ride characteristics when engine running in emergency-operation mode

Risk of accident

Adapt your style of riding accordingly: avoid accelerating sharply and overtaking.

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault. The engine is in emergency-operation mode. In exceptional cases, the engine stops and refuses to start.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably

an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

You can continue to ride, but bear in mind that the usual engine power or the full range of engine rpm might not be available.

Severe fault in the engine control

General warning light flashes yellow.

Engine! is displayed.

WARNING

Engine damage when running in emergency-operation mode

Risk of accident

Adapt your style of riding accordingly: ride slowly, avoid sharp accelerating and overtaking.

If possible, have the vehicle brought in and the fault

rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault which may cause severe secondary faults. The engine is in emergency-operation mode.

Avoid high load and rpm ranges if possible.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

It is possible to continue to ride but not recommended.

Emissions warning

The malfunction indicator lamp lights up

Possible cause:

The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault which affects the pollutant emissions.

Have the fault rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

You can continue riding; pollutant emissions are higher than the threshold values.

Bulbs for flashing turn indicators defective

LAMP! appears on the display.

WARNING

Vehicle overlooked in traffic due to failure of the lights on the vehicle

Safety risk

Replace defective bulbs as soon as possible; always carry a complete set of spare bulbs if possible.

Possible cause:

Bulb for turn indicator defective. Replacing bulbs for front and rear turn indicators ( 151).

Rear light defective

General warning light shows yellow.

LAMPR! appears on the display.

Possible cause:

Bulb for combined rear light and brake light is defective.

The LED rear light must be replaced. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Front lights defective

General warning light shows yellow.

LAMPF! appears on the display.

WARNING

Vehicle overlooked in traffic due to failure of the lights on the vehicle

Safety risk

Replace defective bulbs as soon as possible; always carry a complete set of spare bulbs if possible.

Possible cause:

Bulb for front parking light is defective.

Replacing bulb for left parking light ( 149).

Replacing bulb for right side light ( 150).

Possible cause:

Bulb for low-beam headlight or high-beam headlight is defective. Replacing bulbs for low-beam headlight and high-beam head-

light ( 147).

Possible cause:

The daytime riding light has to be replaced. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Rear light and front lights defective

General warning light shows yellow.

LAMPS! appears on the display.

Possible cause:

Bulb for front parking light is defective.

Replacing bulb for left parking light ( 149).

Replacing bulb for right side light ( 150).

Possible cause:

Bulb for combined rear light and brake light is defective.

The LED rear light must be replaced. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Motorcycle dropped

General warning light shows yellow.

VDS! (Vertical Down Sensor) appears on the blank display. Possible cause:

The drop sensor has detected a drop and has cut out the engine. Bring the motorcycle to the

upright position.

Switch the ignition off and then on again or switch the kill switch on and then off again.

Drop sensor defective

General warning light shows yellow.

VDS! (Vertical Down Sensor) appears on the display. Possible cause:

A defect in the drop sensor has been detected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

ABS self-diagnosis not completed

ABS telltale and warning light flashes.

Possible cause:

The ABS is not available, because self-diagnosis did not complete. The motorcycle has to move forward a few metres for the wheel-speed sensors to be tested.

Pull away slowly. Bear in mind that the ABS is not available until self-diagnosis has completed.

ABS switched off

ABS telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The rider has switched off the ABS.

ABS Switching on ( 53).

ABS fault

ABS telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The ABS control unit has detected a fault. The ABS function is not available or the functionality is subject to certain restrictions. You can continue to ride the

vehicle, but make due provision for the fact that the ABS function is not available or is only

conditionally available. Bear in mind the more detailed in-

formation on situations that can lead to an ABS fault ( 115). Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

ASC intervention

ASC telltale and warning light quick-flashes.

The ASC has detected a degree of instability at the rear wheel and has intervened to reduce torque. The warning light flashes for longer than ASC intervention lasts. This affords the rider visual feedback on control intervention even after the critical situation has been dealt with.

ASC self-diagnosis not completed

ASC telltale and warning light slow-flashes.

Possible cause:

ASC self-diagnosis not completed

The ASC function is not available, because self-diagnosis did not complete. (The motorcycle has to reach a defined minimum speed with the engine running for the wheelspeed sensors to be checked: min 5 km/h)

Pull away slowly. Bear in mind that the ASC is not available until self-diagnosis has completed.

ASC switched off

ASC telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The rider has switched off the ASC.

ASC Switching on ( 54).

ASC fault

ASC telltale and warning light shows.

Possible cause:

The ASC control unit has detected a fault.

You can continue to ride. Bear in mind that the ASC is not available or the functionality

is subject to certain restrictions. Bear in mind the more detailed information on situations that can lead to a ASC fault ( 117).

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably

an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DTC intervention

with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)OE

DTC telltale light quickflashes.

specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Gear not trained

with shift assistant ProOE

The gear indicator flashes. The Pro shift assistant is

not available. Possible cause:

with shift assistant ProOE

The gearbox sensor is not fully trained.

Engage neutral gear N and, with the vehicle at a standstill, let the engine run for at least 10 seconds to train the idle gear.

Engage all gears with clutch actuation and ride at least 10 seconds with the engaged gear.

The gear indicator starts to flash when the gearbox sensor has been trained successfully.

Once the transmission sensor has been fully taught-in, shift assistant Pro will operate as described ( 125).

If the training process was not successful, have the fault rectified by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DWA battery weak

with alarm system (DWA)OE

General warning light shows yellow.

DWALO! appears on the display.

NOTICE

This error message shows briefly only after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

Possible cause:

The integral battery in the antitheft alarm has lost a significant proportion of its original capacity. There is no assurance of how long the anti-theft alarm can remain operational if the vehicle’s battery is disconnected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

DWA battery flat

with alarm system (DWA)OE

General warning light shows yellow.

DWA! appears on the display.

NOTICE

This error message shows briefly only after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

Possible cause:

The integral battery in the antitheft alarm has lost its entire original capacity. There is no assurance that the anti-theft alarm will be operational if the vehicle’s battery is disconnected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Dynamic ESA fault

General warning light shows yellow.

D-ESA! appears on the display.

Possible cause:

The Dynamic ESA control unit has detected a fault. In this condition, the motorcycle has too much damping and is uncomfortable to drive, especially on roads in poor condition.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a

specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

CAN open circuit/short circuit

General warning light shows red.

NO CAN (Controller Area Network) appears on the display. Possible cause:

A fault in the Controller Area Network has been detected.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

No coding

General warning light shows yellow.

NO CODING appears on the display.

Possible cause:

A coding fault has been detected.

The reading remains visible for 10 seconds before disappearing automatically.

Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Service-due date has passed

General warning light shows yellow.

SERVICE! is displayed.

Service-due indicator

The service-due date 1 shows when a service is due within one month.

When a service is due within 1000 km (US model, 700 miles), countdown distance 1 is shown

and counted down in steps of 100 km (US model, 100 miles). This reading appears briefly after the Pre-Ride-Check completes.

If service is overdue, the due date or the odometer

reading at which service was due is accompanied by the ‘General’ warning light showing yellow. The word «Service» remains permanently visible.

NOTICE

If the service-due indicator appears more than a month before the service date, the date saved in the instrument cluster must be adjusted. This situation can occur if the battery was disconnected for a prolonged period of time.

If you want to have the date set consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Fuel down to reserve

General warning light shows yellow.

FUEL! appears on the display.

WARNING

Irregular engine operation or engine shutdown due to lack of fuel

Risk of accident, damage to catalytic converter

Do not run the fuel tank dry.

Possible cause:

The fuel tank contains no more than the reserve quantity of fuel.

Refuelling ( 85).

Range

The range readout 1 RANGE indicates how far you can ride with the fuel remaining in the tank.

This distance is calculated on the basis of average consumption and the quantity of fuel on board.

When the motorcycle is propped on its side stand the slight angle of inclination means that the sensor cannot

register the fuel level correctly. This is the reason why the range is calculated only

when the side stand is in the retracted position.

The range reading appears automatically on the multifunction display when fuel is down to the reserve level.

After a refuelling stop, range is recalculated if the amount of fuel in the tank is greater than the reserve quantity.

The calculated range is only an approximate figure.

Ignition switch/steering lock

Keys

You receive 2 ignition keys. Please consult the information on the electronic immobiliser (EWS) if a key is lost or mislaid ( 39). Ignition switch/steering lock, fuel filler cap lock and seat lock are all operated with the same key.

If you wish you can arrange to have the cases and the topcase fitted with locks that can be opened with the ignition key as well. Consult a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Lock the handlebars

ATTENTION

Handlebars turned in wrong direction when motorcycle propped on side stand

Risk of damage to parts if vehicle topples

On level ground, always turn the handlebars to the left to set the steering lock.

In all other cases it is the lie of the ground that determines the direction in which the handlebars should be turned.

If the camber of the roadway permits, turn the handlebars all the way to the left.

Turn the vehicle key to position 1, while moving the handlebars slightly.

Ignition, lights and all function circuits switched off.

Handlebars are locked. Vehicle key can be removed.

Switching on ignition

Insert the vehicle key into the ignition switch and turn it to position 1.

Side lights and all function circuits are switched on.

Engine can be started. with daytime riding lightOE

When the ignition is switched on the daytime riding light comes on briefly (welcome light). The welcome light goes

out immediately in the following circumstances:

Turn indicators or hazard warning lights are switched on. Light switches are operated. Engine is started.

Pre-Ride-Check is performed. ( 76)

Switching off ignition

Turn the ignition key to position 1.

When the ignition is switched off, the instrument cluster remains switched on for a short time and displays any existing fault messages.

Handlebars not locked.

Electrically powered accessories remain operational for a limited period of time.

The battery can be recharged via the socket.

Vehicle key can be removed.

with daytime riding lightOE

The daytime riding light goes out soon after the ignition is switched off (headlight courtesy delay feature).

Electronic immobiliser EWS

The electronic design of the motorcycle allows it to access data stored in the ignition key by means of a ring antenna located in the ignition switch/steering lock. The engine control unit will not permit the engine to be started unless the key is identified as “authorised”.

NOTICE

A spare key attached to the same ring as the ignition key used to start the engine could «irritate» the electronics, in which case the enabling signal for starting is not issued. The

EWS! warning appears in the multifunction display.

Always keep the spare key separately from the ignition key.

If you lose your key, you can have it barred by your authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

If you wish to do this, you will need to bring all other keys for the motorcycle with you. The engine cannot be started by a barred key, but a key that has been barred can subsequently be reactivated.

You can obtain emergency/extra keys only through an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer. The keys are part of an integrated security system, so the dealer is under an obligation to check the legitimacy of all applications for replacement/extra keys.

The side lights place a strain on the battery. Do not switch the ignition on for longer than absolutely necessary.

In daytime the daytime riding light can be switched on as an alternative to the low-beam headlight.

High-beam headlight and headlight flasher

Switching on ignition ( 38).

Push switch 1 forward to switch on the high-beam headlight.

Pull switch 1 back to operate the headlight flasher.

Headlight courtesy delay feature

Switch off the ignition.

Immediately after switching off the ignition, push button 1 to the back and hold it in this position until the headlight courtesy delay feature comes on.

The vehicle lighting lights for one minute and is automatically switched back off.

This can be used after parking the vehicle, for example, to light the way to the house door.

Parking lights

Switching off ignition ( 39).

Immediately after switching off the ignition, push button 1 to the left and hold it in this position until the parking lights come on.

Switch the ignition on and off again to switch off the parking lights.

Daytime riding light with daytime riding lightOE

Automatic or manual daytime riding light

The daytime riding light is switched on and off either automatically or manually.

You can switch the automatic function for the daytime riding light on or off in the menu.

Recommended setting:

SETUP EQIP: DRL AUTO ON (DRL: daytime riding light)

You can switch the automatic function for the daytime riding light off temporarily by pressing the button. Pressing the button for the daytime riding light has no effect on the setting in the menu.

Automatic daytime riding light

WARNING

The automatic riding light control system cannot replace your personal assess-

ment of lighting conditions, particularly in foggy or misty weather.

Safety risk

Manually switch on the lowbeam headlight in poor lighting conditions.

Start engine ( 75).

NOTICE

The changeover between daytime riding light and lowbeam headlight including front side lights can be effected automatically.

Symbol 1 for the automatic daytime riding light appears on the display.

If symbol 1 does not appear, this is because the SETUP EQIP:DRL AUTO OFF is

active. Proceed as follows in order to switch the daytime riding light to automatic:

Requirement

Poorer vision and oncoming traffic dazzled.

Do not use the daytime running light when it is dark.

NOTICE

By comparison with the lowbeam headlight, the daytime running light makes the vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic. This improves daytime visibility.

If you press a turn-indicator button with the hazard warning flashers switched on, the turnindicator function is activated

instead of the hazard warning flashers, and remains active until you release the button. The hazard warning flashers

recommence flashing as soon as the button is released.

Ignition can be switched off. To switch off the hazard warning flashers, switch on the ignition and press button 1 again.

I have VDS error to the clock
I need disable the VDS function to my BMW S1000RR 2012 year is possible make this!?
