To those who are having this problem:

1) shutdown

2) remove the bios battery and then re-insert ( don’t forget to disconnect all the cables )

3) if you’re using OC, do not apply them now, keep it in stock, go too boot option and disable armoury create

4) boot to windows, install AI suit using armory, then restart, then unintall AI suit, armory create and then reboot

5) reinstall armory create, do not go into fan xpert, reboot to bios, enable armory create install, apply your OC

6) boot to windows, and now you should have fan xpert working again

Issue: Armoury Crate quits loading the Device profile for Spatha X mouse and either gives a blank screen or comes up with error 2006 saying it’ll reload the screen which doesn’t happen.

Cause: IDK. It just started happening the only thing that I recall that might’ve caused it was a few days ago I was moving things around and the base became unplugged momentarily a few times in rapid succession which might’ve messed something up in either its firmware or the drivers or something in between.

The «Fix»: It is as it says in the title, a very sloppy fix, IDK what I did to fix it, it just kinda fixed somewhere in the random stuff I did soooo: If this doesn’t work, or causes you issues you’ll have to figure out how to fix that because you truly don’t want me running tech support for you, it won’t end well. All that to say, do all this at your own risk, I’ve got a TL;DR list of steps at the bottom using only the official Armoury Crate utils (with an optional step that would use CCleaner or something equivocal).

Also, I have WIN 10, IDK if this works for WIN 11 because I’m avoiding WIN 11 like the plague until I’m forced to upgrade and that error could be caused by something totally different in WIN 11.

Also, it’s important to note that my laptop is a ROG Strix G533, so, there’s a chance that things will differ for you because, in my case I selected that profile from the full installer IDK if that’s a factor for Desktops having the same issue or for other manufacturer laptops for that matter that have Armoury Crate installed as 3rd party, my BIOS is ROG/Asus so and Asus Utils flash that BIOS, so, consider that before trying this stuff.

This, MIGHT resolve an error that happens with the Spatha X control portion of Armoury Crate. I say might because, honestly, I’m not a PC programmer or anything, just a tinkerer who stumbles around in the dark until I fix something whether that something is mechanical or digital…. so, YMMV. I’m going to list what I think fixed it and try to list the steps, but, keep in mind I’m just guessing at this point. Part of the «fix» may have been using a Windows Recovery installer for a repair install, but, honestly, the error still showed up afterwards, so I won’t officially list it in the «fix» steps.

Prep: Have a spare mouse or, if you’re doing this for a laptop, prep thyself for trackpad duty. You want to make sure that the Spatha X and Wireless base are unplugged and powered off before doing anything to avoid auto driver installs. You’ll need 2 USB C cords available, I used the ones that came with the mouse, reason is is that you’ll want to plug both in in case a firmware update is required, and, using a spare mouse, or the trackpad saves further headaches. IMPORTANT: Don’t plug in either the wireless base or the mouse until the apropriate step, I think that may actually have an effect on things due to Plug N’ Play.

Software I used: Ashampoo Uninstaller, Armoury Crate Uninstaller, Armoury Crate UWP Full Package offline installer. I suppose Revo would be a good substitute for Ashampoo if you prefer to go the free route or have an equivocal uninstaller, the 3rd party uninstaller itself may not be needed, all I know is that Ashampoo’s uninstaller tends to scrub the registry pretty safely and effectively and it was used to remove things at first.

Click show all underneath the default download. Option 2 is the UWP full install package, it’s a chonky 2.9 GB so, make sure you’ve got enough room. Option 3 is the Uninstall tool. You need both. Stuff I did that you may not do:

1. I ran Ashampoo Uninstaller to remove Aura and all associated Armoury Crate software with full file wipe including Registry entries.

2. I tried reinstalling Armoury Crate using the default live updater which did nothing, so the UWP installer did the trick.

3. I pulled up device manager and scrolled to mouse and right clicked Spatha X and selected uninstall driver, to make certain that it was all gone I checked the box to delete all associated files in that prompt.

Stuff I did that I feel should be followed:

1. Download the offline UWP installer full package installer. Please note, if it hiccups during download you’re going to want to restart the download and not resume. First attempt I just hit resume and things got weird including German error messages. Keep that in mind.

2. Extract the folder somewhere that you’ll remember, I put it in a folder on my desktop with 7z.

3. Temp disable your virus protection and run the installer, it takes a while even if you’ve got decent specs. When it pops up, just select the option to install system at the top, you’re just looking to install the Core app (for me that was the option under system with G533), when it installs it’ll update everything else. I noticed a guide that said don’t use update in Armoury Crate, but, the only thing that worked for me with this set up was to run updates via Armoury Crate. Once more, IDK WTF worked, so YMMV.

4. Let the installer do its full install of Armoury Crate. It will take a decent amount of time, in my case, running a Ryzen 9 5900 series CPU with 64 GB of DDR4, everything Shut down, everything plugged into 3.2 ports, and having the stock NVME that came with the laptop, it still took a decent amount of time. When it prompts for reboot, reboot it.

5. Armoury Crate should prompt you to enable UAC and sign in when it’s done with the install. Let it run, plug in the mouse and base, hold the left and right mouse buttons and press the scrollwheel which «should» wipe firmware updates to the mouse.

6. Next, open up Windows Update Center and click ‘check for updates’ do this even if your system is fully up to date, it should load two small file relating to Asus mouse and another Asus product, the download should be pretty quick and shouldn’t require a restart.

7. Next navigate back over to Armoury Crate and click on the Device tap and click System. This should prompt you to check for updates and take you to its update page.

8. Update everything there, once that’s done (and any pursuant reboots have been taken care of), you SHOULD be notice that your Spatha X kicks back from whatever random RGB config it was stuck in to the default breathing rainbow one, click on Device again and you SHOULD see the Spatha X show back up and… fingers crossed…. this time it’ll show you the buttons screen instead of giving you that annoying error or blank page.

That should resolve the issue. I’ll include a Tl;Dr list of steps below in case things fixed with the official stuff only.

TL;Dr fix with Official Armoury Crate utilities:

1. Have a spare mouse on hand or use the trackpad. Unplug the Spatha X wireless base and the Spatha X. Go to Device manager and uninstall Spatha X under mouse, click the box to delete associated files. Keep both mouse and base unplugged to avoid Plug N Play shennanigannery.

2. Download UWP Full install package and Uninstall tool from here: https://rog.asus.com/us/supportonly/armoury_crate/helpdesk_download(avoid corruption restart download if it doesn’t finish the first time; Hit show all and UWP installer is the 2nd link/Uninstall tool is the 3rd.

3. Temp Disable your virus protection.

4. Run the Uninstaller and uninstall everything associated with Armoury Crate and Aura Sync, don’t mess with Framework if it shows up.

5. Optional: Run CCleaner or something else like that to make sure all traces of the software is gone (not mentioned above because I used different utilities make a restore point and back up registry before doing this optional step)

6. If a reboot is required, reboot, then, disable AV again and run the UWP installer

7. Select only the basics, Armoury Crate itself, all the other stuff will auto download later, for me that was the option at the top, System> G533

8. Go do something else as it does its thing, it took a while for my system even with NVME storage and decent CPU/RAM specs. Approximately… 15 minutes or so? IDK, my passage of time is thoroughly borked, I know it took more than 10 minutes.

9. Once you’re back, or once it’s done installing, it’ll prompt UAC permission, grant permission, click OK on the next screen and log in with your Asus login when it prompts

10. Let things load, click Device>System, plug in the mouse and base via the USB C cables (I used the ones that came with the mouse, shouldn’t make a difference unless the cables you use are garbage).

11. It should say that both devices are new and need updated, click the prompt to go to the update screen within Armoury Crate and update them and anything else that needs updated.

12. As an added step, open Windows Update and click check for updates so Windows recquires the appropriate ASUS drivers including mouse drivers.

13. As a final additional step hold LMB and RMB and push the Scroll Wheel on the Spatha X, this should clear the messed up settings and default the RBG scheme back to default Rainbow Breathing.

14. To test that everything is done, click on Device>Spatha X and things SHOULD load.

I did not have to do a fresh windows install for this. What sucks is that if you have multiple mouse profiles mapped, you’re probably going to have to map them all again and set up your DPI stuff again. If I knew where those settings were stored, I’d provide steps to back them up as an after step. I don’t so, sorry, but, hey, at least you get to use Armoury Crate to control the mouse like you used to :D.
