I googled and found a utility that uninstalls visual studio 2010 here but nothing exists for Visual Studio 2012, 2013 and 2015. My questions are:

Is there any generic utility that uninstalls Visual Studio by Version ?

Or Is there a way to forcefully uninstall visual studio 2012 onward without using the Program and Features menu?

I was running in to the same issue, but have just managed a full uninstall by means of trusty old CMD:

D:vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force

Where D: is the location of your installation media (mounted iso, etc).

You could also pass /passive (no user input required — just progress displayed) or /quiet to the above command line.

EDIT: Adding link below to MSDN article mentioning that this forcibly removes ALL installed components.

Warning: This will remove all components regardless of whether other products require them. This may cause other products to function incorrectly or not function at all.

Microsoft started to address the issue in late 2015 by releasing VisualStudioUninstaller.

They abandoned the solution for a while; however work has begun again as of April 2016.

There has finally been an official release for this uninstaller in April 2016 which is described as being «designed to cleanup/scorch all Preview/RC/RTM releases of Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015 and Visual Studio vNext».

If you don’t have media, doing a dir /s vs_ultimate.exe from the root prompt will find it. Mine was in C:ProgramDataPackage Cache{[guid]}. Once I navigated there and ran vs_ultimate.exe with the /uninstall and /force flags, the uninstaller ran

I opened the program "Command Prompt" with as administrator and search run "dir /s vs_ultimate.exe" in ProgramData folder and find path to vs_ultimate.exe file.

Then I changed my working directory to that path and ran vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force.

Finally its done.

So Soumyaansh’s Revo Uninstaller Pro fix worked for me :) ( After 2 days of troubleshooting other options {screams internally 😀} ).

I did run into the an issue with his method though, «Could not find a suitable SDK to target» even though I selected to install Visual Studio with custom settings and selected the SDK I wanted to install. You may need to download the Windows 10 Standalone SDK to resolved this, in order to develop UWP apps if you see this same error after reinstalling Visual Studio.

To do this

  1. Uninstall any Windows 10 SDKs that me on the system (the naming schem for them looks like Windows 10 SDK (WINDOWS_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE) -> Windows 10 SDK (14393) etc . . .). If there are no SDKs on your system go to step 2!
  2. All that’s left is to download the SDKs you want by Checking out the SDK Archive for all available SDKs and you should be good to go in developing for the UWP!

This is an odd solution, but it worked for me.

I wanted to uninstall Visual Studio 2015 and do a clean install afterwards, but when I tried to remove it through the Control Panel, it was giving me a generic error.

I fixed it by deleting the Visual Studio 2015 folder in Program Files (x86). After that, the Control Panel uninstall worked fine.

Изрыла весь Интернет вдоль и поперек, ничего подобного не нашла.
У меня Виндовс 10, 1903
Не могу удалить Visual C++ 2017, пробовала и через Установку и удаление программ, и через Программы и компоненты, даже психанула и стала искать в папках на диске С (безуспешно пока что). Если пытаться удалить через Установку и удаление/Программы и компоненты, то, когда заканчивается инициализация, появляется надпись «Установка успешно завершена».
Удаляю для того, чтобы переустановить по новой, ибо у меня нет Visual C++ 2015, а он при установке выдает ошибку 0x80070666, установлена другая версия. Нагуглила, что если снести 2017, то 2015 установится. Вот и пыхчу.
Утилиту от мелкомягких для решения проблем с установкой/удалением применяла. Не помогло.
СКлинер пробовала. Не помогло.
Изначально о проблеме узнала, пытаясь решить другую. При установке некоторых программ, обычно связанных с обработкой кода или рендером, выдает ошибку, гласящую, что нет файла vc_runtimeminimum_x86.msi. Эту проблему пока тоже не решила, если есть рекомендации, буду признательна.

I did run into the an issue with his method though, «Could not find a suitable SDK to target» even though I selected to install Visual Studio with custom settings and selected the SDK I wanted to install. You may need to download the Windows 10 Standalone SDK to resolved this, in order to develop UWP apps if you see this same error after reinstalling Visual Studio.

To do this

  1. Uninstall any Windows 10 SDKs that me on the system (the naming schem for them looks like Windows 10 SDK (WINDOWS_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE) -> Windows 10 SDK (14393) etc . . .). If there are no SDKs on your system go to step 2!
  2. All that’s left is to download the SDKs you want by Checking out the SDK Archive for all available SDKs and you should be good to go in developing for the UWP!

This is an odd solution, but it worked for me.

I wanted to uninstall Visual Studio 2015 and do a clean install afterwards, but when I tried to remove it through the Control Panel, it was giving me a generic error.

I fixed it by deleting the Visual Studio 2015 folder in Program Files (x86). After that, the Control Panel uninstall worked fine.

To change the location for some of your Visual Studio files, it’s possible to do so without uninstalling your current instance as described in Select the installation locations.

    In the Windows Start menu, you can search for «installer».

If you experience a catastrophic error and can’t repair or uninstall Visual Studio, you can run the InstallCleanup.exe tool to remove installation files and product information for all installed instances of Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2019, or Visual Studio 2022.

Here’s how to run the InstallCleanup.exe tool:

  1. Close the Visual Studio Installer.

  2. Open an administrator command prompt. To open an administrator command prompt, follow these steps:

    • Type cmd in the «Type here to search» box.
    • Right-click Command Prompt, and then choose Run as administrator.

  3. Enter the full path of the InstallCleanup.exe tool and add the command-line switch you prefer. By default, the path of the tool is as follows. The double quotes enclose a command containing spaces:

    -i [version] Default if no other switch is passed. It removes only the main installation directory and product information.     -f Removes the main installation directory, product information, and most other features installed outside the installation directory, that might also be shared with other Visual Studio installations or other products. Visual Studio 2017.

Установил.
Потом пробовал удалить, но до конца удалить не получилось, из-за отключения электричества в доме.

В результате:
— Visual Studio запускается и работает;
— в «Панель управленияПрограммыПрограммы и компоненты» Visual Studio 2017 отсутствует, т.е. удалить её нельзя;
— в меню «пуск» см. скрин.введите сюда описание изображения;

А здесь были?

Предлагают найти файл InstallCleanup.exe (по умолчанию C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual StudioInstallerresourcesapplayoutInstallCleanup.exe) и запустить его с правами администратора: либо с ключом «-i» (если в будущем планируется повторная установка этой версии Visual Studio), либо с ключом «-f» (если требуется полное удаление продукта насовсем). Последний вариант может затронуть компоненты, используемые другими инсталляцими Visual Studio.

Если такого файла нет — нужно запустить заново установку Visual Studio, дождаться, пока она дойдёт до выбора задачи, и закрыть окно установки. После этого файл InstallCleanup.exe должен появиться в указанной папке.

I need to reinstall vsial studio community, but when it was uninstalling, this is what it was saying:

KB2829760 : Fatal error during installation.

Any ideas what the hell is that and how can I fix it?

Здравствуйте!

Помогите пожалуйста, не могу удалитьобновить VS 2015 Community.

Что я уже сделал:

1- Чистил %temp%

2- Запускал установщик обновлений от имени администратора

3- Антивирус отключил

4- Пытался сам искать в логах, а потом в гугле. (ничего не вышло =( )

В логах нашёл только вот это:

ERROR: Сбой проверки подписи канала: C:UsersuserAppDataLocalTemp25471447.xml.temp

Пытался запускать установщик через командную строку с использованием как удалённого feed.xml,

так и локального.

И ничего так и не вышло.

Следуя инструкции собрал данные с помощью Collect.

6- Попытался скачать установочный образ (iso) с обновлениями…

Проблема осталась.

Visual Studio 2017.

Установил.
Потом пробовал удалить, но до конца удалить не получилось, из-за отключения электричества в доме.

В результате:
— Visual Studio запускается и работает;
— в «Панель управленияПрограммыПрограммы и компоненты» Visual Studio 2017 отсутствует, т.е. удалить её нельзя;
— в меню «пуск» см. скрин.введите сюда описание изображения;

Предлагают найти файл InstallCleanup.exe (по умолчанию C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual StudioInstallerresourcesapplayoutInstallCleanup.exe) и запустить его с правами администратора: либо с ключом «-i» (если в будущем планируется повторная установка этой версии Visual Studio), либо с ключом «-f» (если требуется полное удаление продукта насовсем). Последний вариант может затронуть компоненты, используемые другими инсталляцими Visual Studio.

Если такого файла нет — нужно запустить заново установку Visual Studio, дождаться, пока она дойдёт до выбора задачи, и закрыть окно установки. После этого файл InstallCleanup.exe должен появиться в указанной папке.
