I’ve figured out how to load Minecraft with Optifine OR other mods (by changing between the options in the dropdown menu on Forge). And I’ve heard that you’re supposed to be able to just drag and drop the Optifine file into the «mods» folder to include it with the other mods. But when I load the game it keeps telling me «Optifine is not a valid mod file». Please help!

Make sure to use the .jar file option for Optifine. Copy and paste the file into the mods folder.

Well it’s a different problem now, technically. But yeah, it’s an executable .jar file and everything. When I put it in the mods folder, it just keeps saying Optifine isn’t a valid mod file

1.If you are using 1.14.4+ versions of Minecraft you need OptiForge or OptiFabric (for whichever modloader, you can get them on Curseforge) alongside OptiFine to make it work (no need to extract it at all).
2.For 1.12.2 and before it should work fine extracted (so as OptiFineMod.jar)
3.The OptiFine jar on it’s own that can be double clicked is for extracting it as a mod or installing an OptiFine Vanilla profile, and has no relevance to mods.

Apologies, I am just now seeing this. I managed to get Optifine working without installing OptiForge. I was following the instruction (I’ve seen in a few tutorials) to click «Install» when clicking «Extract» was the way to go. Is there still any benefit in installing OptiForge, or should I leave it alone now?

ДОПУСТИМ … Запуск через TLauncher:
Если запускаешь с параметром ForgeOptiFine 1.7.10, то САМ ЛАУНЧЕР загружает почему-то старую версию OptiFine_1.7.10_НD_U_D1
Я пытался обновить, но каждый раз результат отрицательный
ТОГДА Я СДЕЛАЛ ТАК …
Скачал отдельно
OptiFine_1.7.10_HD_U_D4 и кинул в папку MODS
Запускаю игру через TLauncher с параметром Forge 1.7.10
и в этом случае OptiFine_1.7.10_HD_U_D4 версия грузиться уже из папки MODS.
Вот и всё.

Description of Issue
Hello, the issue is that I just reinstalled Minecraft after completely uninstalling and deleting all files from my computer, but Optifine cannot find it on my computer / is not talking to the launcher.
I downloaded Minecraft directly from the Minecraft.net site and logged into the Microsoft Store to complete the download. After the game was downloaded, the launcher pop-up appeared, and I clicked «Play» and then created a new world in the game. I exited the game and went to Optifine.net to download the latest Optifine version for Minecraft 1.19.2.
After it downloaded (I have Java) I clicked on the download, and the pop-up Optifine Installer appeared: «This installer will install Optifine in the Official Minecraft Launcher…» and I pressed Install. That’s when the additional pop-up appeared: «Cannot Find Minecraft 1.19.2 // You must download and start Minecraft 1.19.2 from the official launcher.
The folder section in the optifine download looked like such: «C: users/[myname]/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft»
I went into my search bar, «Run», «%AppData%», which took me to the .minecraft folder, as shown above, with that exact tracking. I looked at the files, and they are named «launcher_accounts.json», etc. but I don’t see any Minecraft symbol where I would be able to launch the game from that .Minecraft folder.
I even made a «mods» folder in the .Minecraft folder then dragged and dropped Optifine in there but it still won’t appear in my game.
Steps to Reproduce
- Download Optifine
- Try to Install Optifine
- «Cannot Find Minecraft 1.19.2 // You must download and start Minecraft 1.19.2 from the official launcher»
- Click on Search Bar
- «Run» App
- Type «%AppData%» into Run App
- Is in the .minecraft folder
- Cannot find «launcher» only .json files
OptiFine Version
1.19.2
Installation Method
Used standalone installer — after it failed to find the Minecraft launcher — went directly into .Minecraft folder then made a «mods» folder then dragged and dropped it into there. Neither worked.
