Attempting to install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express Edition on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit computer.

During the installation process the following error is displayed…

SQL Server Setup

An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)

Product Name: Microsoft SQL Server

Message Source: setup.rll

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Plan to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Express also after this if this has any barring on how I should be installing this product.

Thanks for your reply — I’m installing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express on a Windows 7 64-bit computer should I pre-install .NET 3.5 or .NET 4.0 ? — not 100% sure on this from your reply.

I’ve uninstalled .NET 4.5 from my machine and will install 3.5 or 4.0 based on what you believe I should reinstall.

It seems you are not reading my comment properly.

.Net 3.5 SP1 is required ,install it before proceeding.This is corrupted in your case so uninstall it first

.NET 4.0 is a requirement for SQL Server 2012. SQL Server installs .NET 4.0 during the feature installation step.
- If you are installing the SQL Server Express editions, ensure that an Internet connection is available on the computer. SQL Server Setup downloads and installs the .NET Framework 4 because it is not included in the SQL Server Express media.

As Shanky post, according to hardware and software requirement, before we installing SQL Server 2012 Express, we need to ensure you have downloaded and installed Microsoft .Net Framework
3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5.

There are some steps for reinstalling SQL Server Express , you can refer to the following points.
1. Uninstall any previous SQL Server 2012 Express components (setup files, registry items, etc.),
2. Download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 from
here.
3. Download and install Windows Installer 4.5 from
here.
4. Install VS 2012
5. Install VS 2012 SP1
6. Redownload SQL Server 2012 Express installer
7. Right click installer and run as administrator.

In addition, if this not work, could you please help us to collect the detailed error message and the following error log? It is very useful for our research.

I have an up-to-date Windows 10 PC. I want to install SQL Server Express 2012. I downloaded these products

1) SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU

2) SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU

3) SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU

Приветствую участников! Нужна помощь разобраться с ошибкой при установке SQL Server 2012 Express SP1 with Tools появляется «Ошибка при ожидании дескриптора восстановления компонента Database Engine».

Ранее на данном компьютере уже была установлена и нормально работала эта же версия SQL Server, удалилась корректно вот по этой инструкции technet.microsoft.com/ru-ru/library/ms143412.aspx, конфигурация не менялясь, ошибка возникла
при повторной установке с аналогичными параметрами

Буду весьма признателен за оперативную помощь

Проблема решена. При настроке установки у служб SQL Server и Агент SQL Сервера выставил системную учетную запись NT AUTHORITYсистема, вместо тех что были по умолчанию. После этого установка прошла без ошибок.

Столкнулся с интересной ошибкой при установке MS SQL Server 2014 на новом сервере Windows Server 2012 R2. Установка SQL Server прерывается почти в самом конце с ошибкой «Не найден дескриптор запуска компонента Database Engine» (Could not find the Database Engine startup handle).

В логе установки Summary.txt при этом присутствует ошибка:

Feature: Database Engine Services

Status: Failed: see logs for details Reason for failure: An error occurred during the setup process of the feature. Next Step: Use the following information to resolve the error, uninstall this feature, and then run the setup process again. Component name: SQL Server Database Engine Services Instance Features Component error code: 0x851A0019 Error description: Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.

Данная ошибка установки MS SQL Server связана с тем, что используются стандартные настройки установки, при котором служба SQL Server запускается под непривилегированной учетной записью NT ServiceMSSQL$V2014. У данной учетной записи может быть недостаточно полномочий для запуска службы SQL Server, поэтому запустить службу невозможно, и установщик завершается с ошибкой «Could not find the Database Engine startup handle». Также эта ошибка может указывать на то, что ранее на компьютере уже пытались установить SQL Server и не очистили файлы и службы, оставшиеся от предыдущей установки.

Чтобы исправить ошибку установки SQL Server:

Корректно деинсталлируйте все программы, связанные с SQL Server через Панель управления и перезагрузите сервер (проверьте, что не осталось файлов и папок в каталоге C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.xxx);
Запустите чистую установку из дистрибутива SQL Server. На вкладке «Server Configuration» убедитесь, что служба SQL Server Database Engine запускается под учетной записью NT ServiceMSSQLSERVER;
Измените эту учетную запись на NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM;
Продолжите установку SQL Server. Ошибка больше не должна появляться.

После окончания установки настоятельно рекомендуем изменить учетную запись, под которой запускается служба SQL Server Database Engine на непривилегированную учетную запись. Эта учетная запись не обязательно должна обладать правами локального администратора сервера (вполне достаточно полномочий внутри SQL Server). Можно использовать аккаунты с правами sysadmin — NT ServiceMSSQLSERVICE или NT ServiceSQLSERVERAGENT. Чтобы изменить учетную запись, под которой работает SQL Server:

Запустите SQL Server Configuration Manager и перейдите в раздел SQL Server Services;
Щелкните по SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER), нажмите кнопку Browse и в поле This account укажите учетную запись, под которой нужно запускать службу или используйте управляемую учетную запись — gMSA (Group Managed Service Accounts). Укажите пароль пользователя и сохраните изменения;
Перезапустите службы SQL Server.

Этот способ поможет вам исправить ошибку «Не найден дескриптор запуска компонента Database Engine» при установке любых версий SQL Server (2016, 2014, 2012 или 2008).

Highload решил упростить вам задачу и просто собрал топ причин, почему не устанавливается Microsoft SQL Server, в одном материале.

Даже если перед установкой новой версии MS SQL Server вы удалили старую, что-то могло не удалиться. Это «что-то» система продолжает держать и не дает поставить новую СУБД (систему управления базами данных).

Решение: почистить файлы вручную (вплоть до реестра) или какой-то программой; переустановить фреймворк и распространяемый Visual C++ Redistributable

Пользователя, которого вы назначили управлять сервером, не существует (или у него нет нужных прав)

В начале установки нужно задать пользователя и пароль учетной записи, которая будет управлять службой MS SQL Server. Если этого пользователя нет, он ограничен в правах доступа или система просто решила испортить вам день, с СУБД будут проблемы. Она либо не установится, либо установится криво.

Решение: можно долго и нудно разбираться с текущим пользователем, но лучше просто создать нового; или вообще использовать системную учетную запись (SYSTEM)

Имя компьютера и/или имя пользователя задано кириллицей

То есть русскими буквами. Примитивная причина, но иногда такое случается.

Решение: поменять имя компьютера на английское 🙂 И заодно проверить всех пользователей

Вы ввели неправильный пароль пользователя

Опять же — чистая невнимательность. Если на этапе установки ввести не тот пароль для пользователя, который будет управлять службой, Microsoft SQL Server не напишет вам, что он неправильный.

Решение: вручную проверить пароль пользователя

Версия SQL Server не поддерживается текущей версией Windows Server

Или наоборот. Посмотрите список требований к вашей версии SQL Server на сайте Microsoft. Если вашего Windows Server в списке нет — ничего не попишешь.

Решение: поставить другую версию SQL Server, или обновить Windows Server, или просто поставить SQL не на сервер, а на обычный Windows

Версия SQL Server не поддерживается вашей Windows

Например, SQL Server 2012 подходит для Windows от Vista до семерки, а с установкой на десятку могут быть проблемы.

Решение: как и в прошлом пункте, только с поправкой на обычный Windows; если очень нужна именно эта версия SQL, можно попробовать запустить ее в режиме совместимости с какой нибудь из других версий Windows — «методом проб и ошибок»

Вы поставили новую версию SQL Server

Это не совсем проблема, так как в этом случае все, скорее всего, установится, но не будет окошка с запуском программы. В новых версиях MS SQL сам сервер и SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS, визуальная оболочка) разъединены. Поэтому если нужна именно программа, в которой можно будет визуально работать с базами, то нужно ставить еще и SSMS.

Решение: поставить старую версию SQL Server, установить Management Studio или просто работать без графической оболочки

Вы засорили реестр

Иногда это приводит не к ошибке инсталляции, а к ее бесконечной загрузке. Если прошло несколько часов и ничего не установилось — это оно.

Решение: удалить из реестра HKLMSOFTWAREWOW6432NodeMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server Management Studio; а лучше вообще почистить реестр вручную или программой

Вы скачали кривой дистрибутив

Такое тоже может быть, особенно если скачивали не с официального сайта.

Мешают вирусы

В этом случае, как именно они повлияют на установку, предсказать невозможно.

Решение: удалить Microsoft SQL Server подчистую (то есть, в том числе из реестра); проверить ПК на вирусы; установить все заново

При попытке установить RTM версию SQL Server 2012 Standard на свеже-установленную ОС Windows Server 2012 при отсутствии прямого подключения к интернету можно получить ошибку включения зависимой компоненты: NetFx3 -2146498298

При этом процесс установки проходит до конца но не устанавливает основные компоненты SQL Server.

Для решения этой проблемы нам потребуется отдельно установить компоненты .Net Framework 3.5. Так как эти компоненты входят в состав дистрибутива Windows Server 2012, можно вставив установочный диск ОС (в нашем примере буква диска — S:), выполнить команду (с правами Администратора):

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:S:sourcesSxS /LimitAccess

Или же мы можем установить эти компоненты через мастер добавления ролей и возможностей Add Roles and Features Wizard в оснастке Server Manager. После того как на шаге Features мы отметим .NET Framework 3.5 Features вызовем окно дополнительной настройки указания места расположения установочных файлов ОС – Specify an alternate source path

Укажем каталог полный пусть к подкаталогу SourcesSxS на нашем DVD-накопителе или сетевой папке, в которую мы предварительно скопировали содержимое установочного диска Windows Server 2012.

Если путь указан верно, то процесс добавления компонент .Net Framework 3.5 пройдёт успешно.

После этого можно заново повторить процедуру установки необходимых компонент SQL Server 2012. Возможно при повторном запуске инсталлятора мы получим ошибку:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly ‘System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Появление этой ошибки будет вести к отмене вызова окна программы установки SQL Server. Эта “болячка” известна ещё со времени SQL Server 2008 R2 и для решения этой проблемы необходимо найти указанный в тексте ошибки файл user.config и удалить его.

В нашем примере файл расположен в каталоге

После этого процесс установки SQL Server 2012 должен завершиться без ошибок.

I have written a C# WinForms application to install SQL Server 2012 Express with SP4 on the end-user’s computer and then read-write to it.
My goal is for this distributed App to install SQL on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and
Windows 10.

It successfully installs on Windows 10 but not on Windows7.

I’ve checked the requirements for installing SQL on Windows 7 and the system I attempted to install it on has those requirements, i.e., Windows 7 SP1, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Windows Powershell 2.0.

The install proceeds without issue, until the very end, at which time it fails but doesn’t state why it’s failing.

I’m wondering if the issue is related to the bootstrapper package.xml file.
I modified this file, based on information from a Vista system and my own Windows10 system.

I’m probably grasping at straws here, but as the «install.log» file is unclear on why SQL fails, I’ve included my package.xml file for examination.

I based the «VersionNT» «FailIf» properties on a set of «Windows Version Numbers» I found Online.

I tried to use the values set forth for Windows 7 SP1, but those appear as «Version Number» «6.1.7601», which does not fall in line with what I found in the package.xml file.

Could someone tell me, from looking at my package.xml, if the values in this file are correct for installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 4 (SP4) Express on the aforementioned Windows systems?

The install reports: «Result of checks for command ‘SqlExpress2012SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.EXE’ is ‘Install’.» But then ends up reporting: «Process exited with code -2068578304

It successfully installs on Windows 10 but not on Windows7.

The install proceeds without issue, until the very end, at which time it fails but doesn’t state why it’s failing.

I’m wondering if the issue is related to the bootstrapper package.xml file.
I modified this file, based on information from a Vista system and my own Windows10 system.

I’m probably grasping at straws here, but as the «install.log» file is unclear on why SQL fails, I’ve included my package.xml file for examination.

I based the «VersionNT» «FailIf» properties on a set of «Windows Version Numbers» I found Online.

Windows Version Numbers

I tried to use the values set forth for Windows 7 SP1, but those appear as «Version Number» «6.1.7601», which does not fall in line with what I found in the package.xml file.

Could someone tell me, from looking at my package.xml, if the values in this file are correct for installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 4 (SP4) Express on the aforementioned Windows systems?

Я столкнулся с интересной ошибкой при установке MS SQL Server 2014 на новую виртуальную машину под управлением Windows Server 2012 R2. Установка SQL Server была прервана почти в конце с ошибкой « Не удалось найти дескриптор запуска компонента Database Engine ».

В журнале установки SQL произошла следующая ошибка (файл summary.txt):

I’m trying to install SQL Server 2012 Express on a computer with Windows Server 2012 Foundation, I must recall that this is an Active Directory domain controller but I cannot install the server on another computer.

I have the following error:

I think the problem is related to older installations.

I tried uninstalling them, editing the registry, but the problem is still here. Installation hangs.

Hi Mr.Plow,

Firstly, I would recommend you use the
Microsoft Fix-It tool to remove any previous SQL Server instances completely.

Secondly, according to the above log file, some messages indicate that many .msi files don’t exist in your setup file. Could you please re-download SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Express (SP2 is required for SQL Server 2012 on
Windows 10) from this
link and install it again?

Thirdly, make sure that you copy SQL Server setup file to local drive, also ensure that you right-click SQL Server setup and select “Run as administrator” to start it after extracting the downloaded file. In addition, please disable windows security/defender
and any antivirus software.

Thanks for your reply — I’m installing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express on a Windows 7 64-bit computer should I pre-install .NET 3.5 or .NET 4.0 ? — not 100% sure on this from your reply.

I’ve uninstalled .NET 4.5 from my machine and will install 3.5 or 4.0 based on what you believe I should reinstall.

It seems you are not reading my comment properly.

.Net 3.5 SP1 is required ,install it before proceeding.This is corrupted in your case so uninstall it first

.NET 4.0 is a requirement for SQL Server 2012. SQL Server installs .NET 4.0 during the feature installation step.
- If you are installing the SQL Server Express editions, ensure that an Internet connection is available on the computer. SQL Server Setup downloads and installs the .NET Framework 4 because it is not included in the SQL Server Express media.

Hi Colin,

As Shanky post, according to hardware and software requirement, before we installing SQL Server 2012 Express, we need to ensure you have downloaded and installed Microsoft .Net Framework
3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5.

There are some steps for reinstalling SQL Server Express , you can refer to the following points.
1. Uninstall any previous SQL Server 2012 Express components (setup files, registry items, etc.),
2. Download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 from
here.
3. Download and install Windows Installer 4.5 from
here.
4. Install VS 2012
5. Install VS 2012 SP1
6. Redownload SQL Server 2012 Express installer
7. Right click installer and run as administrator.

In addition, if this not work, could you please help us to collect the detailed error message and the following error log? It is very useful for our research.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Express, but I get this error (I try to uninstall and delete registry key, try to change account for database engine to NT AuthoritySystem, but reinstall still not working):

I cannot install neither SQL server 2012 express nor Management Studio 16 on my computer.

It says: Microsoft Sql Server 2012 Native Client: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this installation to complete could not be run.

I have tried every solution I found, but non of them worked.

I have the log files but I cannot post the link yet (as I am new I cannot do that here), sfc scan only found the winhlp.exe file corrupted, nothing else, no DLLs.

При установке SQL Server Express 2012 проверка правил не удалась, и установка не могла быть выполнена, но в системе явно был установлен .Net 4.0, почему он сообщает о такой ошибке? Сообщение об ошибке:
